Posted 03-06-08 08:13 PM IP look , i know it is flu season and all. but, the emergency room at this hospital conveniently did not have any comment forms for patients to fill out. i think i know why. considering the treatment of my daughter by others in the waiting room and the length of time it took us to see a dr. we spent a total of 5 hrs. there on a sat. nite. i was deeply disappointed.

Posted 03-26-08 07:12 PM IP My son was in a coma in Birmingham just over a year ago with a disease that started with flu like symptoms. Get to the hospital! That's what they are there for. DONT TAKE ANY CHANCES! Nothing will change unless you do. Remember that any candidate for public office who permits, supports or wants you to pay for the direct killing of almost every third baby conceived in America — that candidate is simply disqualified from holding public office.

Posted 04-03-08 09:08 PM IP thank you bill. i take my childs' symptoms and health very seriously. there is also a new flu this year and the symptoms are similar. both of my parents were recently in two different hospitals with pneumonia around the same time. i had my hands full. since my parents are so old they may never live life the same now.

Posted 04-22-08 09:13 PM IP I'm joining this coversation a little late and I apologize for that. I have been off the boards for quite some time. Now, on to the issue. You are upset because you took your child to an ED on a Saturday night and had to wait 5 hours to be seen by a doctor. That is actually pretty good time.
I am in total agreement with Fyrman on this matter. The ED is used to often for minor cases that can be simply dealt with at your family doctor. I do understand that it was an emergency to YOU. Afterall, it is your baby. The problem with that is, most people do not understand what a true emergency is. Which brings me to your situation. The one thing that glares to be about your post is "coughing chronically." If he had a chronic cough, as you have stated, you maybe should have thought of takikng to the doctor on Friday or whenever you noticed his coughing was lasting more than a day or so.
It saddens me to see complaints like this. Have you ever thought that maybe there were some critical cases in the ED that were occupying their time. Were the ambulances bringing individuals in that may be seriously ill. I'm not trying to down play the serious of your child's illness, but from the sound of it, you had a pretty stable child that was probably cranky and you were looking for a magic bullet to cure him.
Instead, you should be grateful that you are able access medical care on a Saturday night instead of having to wait until Monday. Until you have worked in an ED and understand how long the process takes, you will not be able to begin to appreciate the complexeties involved in treating individuals. The amount of time that is needed to run diagnostic tests is time consuming and that accounts for the majority of your wait time.
Again, I am in total agreement with Fyrman on this matter and I'm sure that doesn't surprise you. I will say, though, I used to be on your side and complain about the length of time it took to access health care. Now, after being able to experience, first hand, the ins and outs of an ED, I have altered my stance on that matter.

Posted 04-24-08 08:54 PM IP as a matter of fact, i do know that there were no "serious" emergencies, such as ambulances bringing in people. because, i kept walking in and out of the e.r. also, if some of the other patients' family members had been more nice to me and my daughter it would have been more bearable.
