Our race director was among the missing tonight so we ran a "Crash and Burn" race. The obvious strategy is to stay on since a single accident could easily cost you 5 or 6 laps. Russ' car seemed even faster tonight than it had previously. Last week he managed a 4.79? on one lane during the race. He never got to a 4.7 tonight but he ran 4.8 on a bunch of lanes, not just the fastest lanes. I think everyone was running the same set up that they ran last week so Russ was the odds on favorite to pull off the win. I figured my only chance was to stay on and rack up the laps while others were retrieving their poor wrecked cars. Well that plan lasted all the way to the end of the first lap when my car turned turtle and slid down the straight on it's roof. That cost me 4 laps. And to rub salt in the wound, I was the only one to come off in the first heat. Great.....
Russ did his job. But no one managed to get out without some mishaps. Some more than others.
Russ 261
Greg 253
Larry 220
Tim 212
Luck does sometime play a part in the results of a crash and burn race. All night long, Tim and I ran nearly identical times on all of the lanes. I was just a little luckier. Two or three times, Tim had problems with braid in his lane due to no fault of his own. In addition, it seemed like it didn't matter who came off, they managed to wind up in his lane. Whatever you call it, karma or just bad luck, Tim came out on the short end of the stick. |
