Motor rules typically define the upper limit of what can be allowed. I've seen rules that say something to the effect of "all FK-style motors up to and including....". However, the TRRA rules currently specify "TSR D301 and Falcon 7's only", making no allowance for any lesser-powered motors such as Falcon 5's. I was thinking a Falcon 5 may be just the ticket for the new Tyler track. I was about to order a couple when I decided I should double-check the rules; good thing I checked first! Without actually starting a poll, I'm curious if there would be any objections to amending the rules to allow F5's(?). Let me know what you think on the subject. Thanks.

RL,
If I remember correctly the Falcon 5 has been discontinued for a couple years now, you would probably be better off adding the slick7 or Kelly bullet motor, there the same motor and there about a 2 tenths a lap slower than a falcon 7.

Yes, I agree with Rhett. The Slick7/Kelly Bullit motor are probably good alternatives for the new Tyler track.

I'm hesitant to make any such change(allowing lower-powered motors) unless the faithful are overwhelmingly in favor. With such limited response thus far, maybe a decision should be put off until there's greater discussion on the subject.

Why not just make the lower power motors legal like John & Rhett did in the scale series. No one cares if you use less horsepower. Kraig said get all of that you want.

I WANT to do that; that's why I started this thread. But I don't want to appear heavy-handed or dictatorial and just decree it so; I'd like to get more racer input. Ken, Kraig and you(Kyle) have now spoken up. Good. I'd like to hear more.

Just a suggestion before you make any change in motor requirements you test some of these motors. After the Tyler guys have a chance to test the Falcon 7 may work just fine on their Track and no change is necessary.

We are fine with people choosing a lower powered motor if they want to. We have been running the Falcon 7's on our track with the same gearing we usually run. The cars are driveable if you don't push it too hard.

You may well be right, Tony. But the Kelly Bullet and Slick 7 motors may work just fine also. I think what I've suggested is a pretty harmless ammendment. There's been no naysayers yet, but there's no need to rush a decision either. If someone were to try one of the lower-powered motors, let us all know how it goes. I'd try one out in practice at the upcoming race, but it's too late to order one and get it in before the race.

Hmmmm.... got an idea.

Here's an idea. You guys make a short drive to Tyler and lets play on Saturday or Sunday. Just get together and come on down. Bring a light trigger finger with you when you come. Bring the softer motor's and falcon's. Remember your old shop Teacher's words. "Test don't guess"

I'd bring one(softer motor) if I had one, but I don't. I could order through DSC. Their orders go out on Mondays. I "think" they receive their orders on Saturdays... that would be race day(Aug. 4th). As you see, the timing just doesn't work for this first race. No problemo; there will be other races and chances to test.

I think Chris it "testing" a Cheeta II motor. The track is a driving track. Wont be click it and stick it.

RL... just order one from PCH. If you ordered it today you would have it by Friday. I really don't care if the rules change now because nothing is going on, but once the series starts... NO WAY. So let's get it nailed down before then.

There's been no such discussion... yet. Prior to the last(first) series, we went back and forth a number of times... series, no series, series, no series, etc. I'm not saying we will definitely NOT run another series; I'm just saying we haven't discussed it yet. I know... it's getting on to a point in time where such things SHOULD be talked about. I think there's pros and cons to having a series and the same for not having one. Like the threads that are open regarding slower motors and spec tires, I guess we should start one to discuss the series/no series subject. I guess I'll go open that thread now.

I regret having opened this thread. I opened it; now I'm closing it. We stick with TSR D301 and Falcon 7 motors only. Now there's one less thing to worry about. If anyone rushed out and bought a Slick 7 or Kelly Bullet, PM me and I'll buy it off you.
