Are we talking about races that were attended or races that one did not attend.
I say you should only be allowed to drop a race if you attended all races and forget the extra points for attended them all. That is a bit rediculous. Nowhere in the real racing world do you get awarded bonus points for being at all the events.
We use to have 2 drops when we had 8 races in a year.

Real racing may not give bonus points but they give real money. That's their bonus. Bonus points are just to try and get people to make all the races. 3 points is not a lot but can make the difference.it's not the one with the fastest car, it's who refuses to lose...R.E.
Luther, I drag raced for years. And won multiple events and series championships. Never did the money won cover the weekend of racing. Only the true professionals in the sport actually make money. Ask any of the dirt track racers around DFW if they race for the money.
Drop the drops and the participation bonus.I can be the jump start for the car parked in your mind

I believe one drop is sufficient with 6 races. If there are more races then 1 more may be needed. The drops are there so that someone is not completely out of the series if there is something they cannot get out of on a race day. For instance I coach High School Baseball and we have Tournaments that end on Saturdays(sometimes Sundays) and if my team is in the Championship game at 4:00 I don't think I can be in Tulsa at 6:00 for a race. Now if this happens during the second TSRA race of the year and I don't get a drop what is my incintive towards the points race after that. Everybody should do their best to make it to all the races because if you have a bad race than you still have shot at doing well in the points. It is only 6 weekends in the year and if we love racing we should be able to work around most things to get to the races. Gotta Go
We had a 9 race schedule in the Southern USRA, one race at each track, and 2 drops. The general consensus regarding drops was if you missed early or had a bad day you still had a chance to finish well in the points and thus the incentive to continue.
We also had a small bonus for racers that made all 9 races. We used the Nascar points system so a win was like 175 points and the bonus was 5 points.
You missed an important word in my statement "basically". Over the years that I have raced in the TSRA I don't recall someone winning a title because they got the bonus points and second didn't. There may have been a 3rd place winner but I am not sure. What we have to decide is if we reward someone for being completely committed, supporting the organization and raceways or let the racing decide who is rewarded. I am on the fence a little on this. Being a racer, I want the racing to determine the outcome but knowing the organizational and owner side and wanting to support these things I want as many people to be there as possible. Like I said on the fence. Gotta Go
I can give you one example...
2008, in Katy, Jay out scored Mac in points in the last wing flexi race. Gloating around the room about his championship victory...he was suddenly stopped when the extra bonus points were added in and he lost the title and trophy.

I had a similar thing happen to me one year in NASCAR. Should have had second, but ended up with third because I had to drop more points.I can be the jump start for the car parked in your mind

I do remember that I think. Was it the bonus points or the dropped points?

Now that has happened a few times where you drop more points than your competitor. It has happened to me, but that was when we dropped 2 races. If we have a best 6 out of 8 races and you make all of them and run a consistent 3rd and 4th a person who runs a consistent 1st and 2nd with 2 bad races has an opportunity to beat you over all. I am assuming this is what happened to you Brian? It did to me. This is where the bonus points could help someone who was consistent and stand to lose more regular points. Still on the fence. Gotta go
I think if you have no drops there isn't a need for bonus points. If someone misses a race he loses points others are getting. I still think 1 drop helps get more racers involved as much as they can be. Not sure on the bonus points tho. Gotta Go

A person who consistently finishes 1st or 2nd should win. With the current points system, there is a possibility that they can't. Having a poor finish in at least one race is almost necessary to win. Deliberately taking a dive in a race becomes a possible good strategy move.I can be the jump start for the car parked in your mind
