Chase,
I "think" the only track running womp-womps on a regular basis is in Odessa. Of course, what your goal is regarding slot cars should determine what you buy. If you intend to just "play" around with slot cars and not "race" specifically, there's nothing wrong with a womp. I've never had one but I understand they are relatively economical to play with and, yes, I do believe some Camaro bodies are available(I'll have to dig up their sources). On the other hand, if your intent is to "race", then womps aren't your best choice unless you intend to visit Odessa frequently. A visit to Dallas Slot Cars is certainly in order if you intend to race. Jay, Mac and Shontel(DSC) will fill you in on what classes they run and what equipment the locals use in each class. As mentioned, NASCAR and Indy are 2 of their "entry level" classes and I guess you could call Group F an entry level wing car class. There are 3 commercial tracks in the DFW area: Dallas Slot Cars, Wylie Motor Sports(now in St. Paul) and River Oaks Motor Speedway(Ft. Worth suburb). There are also 2 club tracks, one in Garland and one in Waxahachie. We are very fortunate to have so many tracks available in our area! My own personal interest lies mostly in scratchbuilding Can-Am cars which we've been running at Ranger Raceway(Garland "club" track) but I run a JK Cheetah 11 flexi also. The nice thing about the flexi's is that all you usually have to do is switch from one body type to another for different classes... NASCAR, NASTRUCK, GTR, etc.
By the way, I live in Denton also. Feel free to drop by sometime and I'll show you my "stable" of cars.
Remember, two wrongs don't make a right..... but three lefts do! Only you're a block over and one block behind! |
