Hello everyone. I'm originally from San Antonio and I used to race back when I was 11 or 12 back when the slot car track was over off Bandera Rd and Wurzbach Rd. I'm now 33 and am wanting to get back into the hobby I always remembered to be fun. I raced a winged car back then and if I remember correctly, won a few races I was dissapointed to find out that there were no tracks in Austin, but am willing to make the hour drive for some fun. I've still got my old gear from way back then, but I highly doubt it works, and I'm sure the cars are wayyy faster than I remember them being.

The closest track to you would be Magnatech raceway in San Antonio, inside the CrossRoads Mall, they have a 180' Engleman track, is awesome! It's got a huge bank, S's over the bridge, I mean 180' of pure fun!, the people there is very nice, and they have a wide selection of parts and RTR's, that would be the closest track to you, but as Showdown said on his post, DSC is hosting the NAT's this year, the most prestigeous wing cars race in the US, it would be nice if you could join the fun!

Welcome to the forum!

The track in San Antonio has been in operational since the 70's it used to be GM Raceway and is owned by Jim Honeycutt. This is probably the track your raced on.
They mainly race Scale Cars on the 180 Engleman and they have a smaller track also.
There are forums for all of the Tracks in Texas and Oklahoma.
For wing cars your choices are Dallas, Katy and Tulsa OK as well as Scale Cars.
Some of the Scale cars are very Fast and a lot of fun. These are raced weekly at most of the tracks on this forum.
You can find the Series Schedule on the TSRA for Wing Cars and TSS for Scale Cars.
The NATS will have people from all over the US, Europe and South America the fastest Racers in the World will be That Scedule is on Dallas Slot Cars Forum and website.
Slot Racing News can also be followed on www.oldweirdherald.com and www.slotblog.net

Welcome back to the slot world. Its still fun and lots of it is still the same. Your old stuff will probably still work with some TLC to the tires. It wont be competitive but it will bring your trigger finger back to life!

Any track will be happy to show you the latest and greatest with scale racing or wing racing. Find a track and get back to enjoying slot cars!

Pain,

I'm guessing within the next 2 months there will be a scale track in Austin. The track is functional but there are some details to be finished before we can open to the public. You can stop by Kings Hobby on N. Lamar and take a look at the track if you like. There is also a video at the Austin Slot Car Club website: http://austinslotcarclub.com/forum/...c.php?f=20&t=16

Hey! I'm in Austin, too! Funny thing is, I moved here from Houston just mere weeks after Z Racing closed down...and it was literally less than two miles from where I live. Doudly inronic is the fact that P.A. mpved from way across Houston from where I used to live to less than ten miles from the, then moved again aven closer, since I moved up here! It was the long, long drive across Houston that kinda caused me to fall away from slot racing in the first place.
So now, being a huge NHRA fan all my life, I want to get into slot drag racing. I have a car in the mail coming my way now, but no place to race it.
What I would like to know is if Magnatech in San Antonio has a dragstrip. My wife & daughter love to go down to SA once in a while, so that would give me a good excuse to go with them, so they could drop me off at the track and go do what they want while I race.
So, does Magnatech have a dragstrip, or if not, is there one closer to Austin than the Dallas area or Mineola?

I've been to Magnatech; Jim doesn't have a dragstrip. River Oaks(suburb of Ft. Worth) has a dragstrip and big following. Tyler(slot racing club) has a dragstrip. If you post this same question on the River Oaks(ROMS) forum, they may be able to steer you to the closest dragstrip.

Remember, two wrongs don't make a right..... but three lefts do! Only you're a block over and one block behind!
