Posted February 7th, 2010 02:38 PM IP Really interested to know from those of you who consistently book voiceover work which voiceover sites you use to find the jobs. Are there any credible free ones out there? Which of the monthly-rate sites do you think are worth it and do you really need to go with the highest end membership? Thanks for the input!

Posted February 8th, 2010 06:42 AM IP The replies you'll get on your questions depends on who you talk to.
The three most widely used are voice123.com, voices.com and voplanet.com.
The complaints I hear most frequently about voices.com and voice123.com are: that the ROI (return on investment) is low to nominal for most, that it's too competitive, that too many low-paying jobs are posted, and that you end up spending too much time auditioning as opposed to the jobs you actually book (with a poor return ratio).
You'll find some of these things mentioned in the links below:

I'm not a paying member of voice123, but I can't recommend them because a good many other pro voice talents have stopped recommending them and they have some customer service issues as well. I also find it ridiculous that you have to be a paying subscriber just to post in the forum. They also revamped the forum and made it less personal and fun to participate, and began moderating it heavily -- anything which seemed like it was questioning their policies and operating practices got edited or deleted by their mods.
I know the owners of voices.com and voplanet.com personally and can verify that they are legitimate and have been beneficial for some of my fellow voice talents. But I can't give a personal opinion on either one because I'm not a paying member.
I think you might find much better responses to your questions by posting on forums such as vo-bb.com and voice-overs.com, as well as the VO linkedin groups like "Working Voice Actor Group", "Voiceover Ninja" and a couple other of the more popular VO forums on that site. Posted February 8th, 2010 02:37 PM IP shashatwins, three of my agents use 800casting to submit me for projects. I haven't booked any yet though.
But the annual fee is minimal, and you don't have to pay per audition submission like you do on actorsaccess.com.
And just having a page there has been beneficial for me since I still don't have a personal website and it covers my entire work experience as a performer. For that alone, it has been worth the investment. Craig Crumpton: The 'Barnaby Jones' of The Southern Casting Call (courtesy of mentalcase)

Posted February 8th, 2010 02:42 PM IP LSC, I forgot to mention that you can have a profile on both voices.com and voice123.com without being a paying member. But you at least need to have a demo to upload in order to join.
I have a profile on both sites, but it's served only as a "placeholder" for me and has proven effective for boosting search results. Craig Crumpton: The 'Barnaby Jones' of The Southern Casting Call (courtesy of mentalcase)

I heard you're signing up with my agent, Janine, at Discoveries. Talk to her about 800Casting. She's a big proponent of it and uses it with all her talent. It's a great deal for the price and 99% of the castings are PAID work....oh such a nice thing !
Good luck joining our agency. You'll love Janine! She's a great agent and takes a personal interest in all of her talent. Sincerely,
Sabina Kim

Posted February 15th, 2010 10:13 PM IP Voplanet.. I have found to be a total waste of time. I will not be renewing my subscription with them at all. I have had perhaps 1 doz auditions through them in nearly a year... those are the ones THEY have notified me about. Nah... they suck.
Voices.com has been the best for me. I landed a commercial for Merke, Sharpe & Dohme through them... NOT I might add by auditioning either. They approached me after seeing my profile on the site. So for my experience, they are the most workable. And, they have a set minimum price for the vo artist of $100.00 per job posted.. having said that, most of their jobs are in the 100-250.00 range...
Voices123.. is also a waste of time.. they have some very low paying jobs... less that 50.00 in some cases.
If you are just starting out, a reasonable site you could try is Elance.com. For only 9.00 a month you can bid on jobs... I would try them first.

| VU? Sorry, when I see that abbreviation it means "Voiceover Universe" to me, which is a social networking site not a casting site.
And perhaps I'm just not informed, but what other voice casting site goes by "VU"? Craig Crumpton: The 'Barnaby Jones' of The Southern Casting Call (courtesy of mentalcase)
