Firstly log into your board, then your CP.
- Go to the Forum Administration.
- If there isn't a Category for the private forum that you want, please create it now.
- After you have the category, we are going to make our forum.
- Make sure you are back at the Forum Administration Screen
- Scroll to the top so you see the text box to name a new forum.
- Type the name of the private forum and click Add.
- When the next screen comes up, fill in the information for it.
Description: Tell a little about why the forum is private.
Moderators: If you want anyone to be a moderator of this forum, please list them here.
Ok, this is now where we do the settings to make this forum private. Or set forum permissions as you like.
- Uncheck BOTH Unregistered boxes.
- If you don't want just anyone on the forum to see this one, uncheck BOTH Registered boxes.
- If it is just a user group that you want to be able to see it, check both boxes for that user group.
- If you don't want moderators to be able to get into the forum, uncheck BOTH moderator boxes.
- Also UNCHECK BOTH Authorized, no need for them to be checked. Unless the forum is supposed to be accessed by members labeled as Authorized.
Lastly, uncheck the "Create public archives?".
Now click submit.
Remember - If you create a Usergroup, and wish for people in the group to visit your forums, you MUST go to the settings of ALL your forums, and check both boxes for that Usergroup.
I say again. If a member is in a user group and you want them to see your forums, you must check the boxes for that user group on the forums you wish for them to see.
That is how to make a private forum and/or set permissions.

Millions of thanks to: Catchow, Seb, Shellspere, Orpheas, and Sage for all thier help with my questions on adding to/fixing my board.
It IS NOT Catchow to blame! It is ME!! Blame me, it is all my fault!!
If your board has problems blame me!

and public does indeed mean they'll be made available by Google. carefully think about whether or not you desire to have old messages appear in public. (if it's not EXCOBOARD, then it's not worth discussing)

Posted October 11th, 2007 12:57 PM IP Another thing to keep in mind if you want your forum to be 100% private is that without the stop google code, poststhat are in your private forum may appear on google in the cache when the bot takes shots of your forum.

This has happened to me. I had a closed private forum and someone googled certain members usernames and a lot of private posts were accessed.
