Posted October 5th, 2007 12:19 PM IP Add a Site Meter to your Board
What this does: It monitors the Internet Activity on your board.
Author: SiteMeter.com
Where does it go: Most people place it in the Feature Settings>Footers
Extra Information: Read all instructions carefully, on Sitemeter.com's site. They give you all the information you will need to set up your site meter and customize it to your specifications.
How to use the Site Meter Instructions:
Go to SiteMeter.com and register for a free account. Follow their instructions carefully and read their Frequently Asked Questions to determine how to do some of the things you may be wondering about.
Copy the HTML Code you are given after you have registered and go to Control Panel>Feature Settings>Footers and add the information where you wish it to show up. Most people add it right at the bottom before the Excoboard Code ends.
Note: Site meter is free and can be adjusted so that only you as the Admin will have access to the information contained within, which consists of Statistical Data. If someone wishes to take the time to "source" (View Source) on your board, they will be able to see that you have a site meter present on your board even if it has been hidden from view. Site Meter helps you to learn from the Statistics who visits your board, and may prove useful in maintaining order on your board from unwanted guests. It is not a "cure all" (as stated by AntiPaul in another post.) and should not be your sole reference for what is happening on your board.
Site Meter will tell you the first page a visitor accesses on your Excoboard as well as the last viewed page by that visitor. It will give you IP information, Domain Name, and other pertinent information that you may need in the future should you face an abusive member or guest on your board.
Extra Note:
Some people have hidden the site meter in an Admin thread with sole access to it and have stated that the Site Meter still works as it is intended to do. You can experiment and see if this is true for you also.
This tutorial was found and retrived and reposted at Support Forums in an effort to help other Excoboard Admins. It was compiled through the answers of a number of people at Support and put into one thread to try to answer the most FAQ questions regarding Site Meter.
Here are some other site meters.
