This is a Spell Checker I found searching Google. Please note that if you are using a background in your textarea, it will no longer work. The background of your textarea will be forever white

Preview: http://www.jacuba.com/tryit.jsp

It is very easy to install if you follow these steps:

In your HEADER place this code:
Quote:
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.jacuba.com/service/checker/-/-/" defer="defer"></script>

In your PAGE HEADER find the <body> tag and replace it with:
Quote:
<body onload="if (window.Jacuba) Jacuba.applyTo('element: TEXTAREA')">

YOU ARE DONE!!! WOOHOO!!!

Credit: http://www.jacuba.com
-----------------------------------
Inside the spell check there is a feature MY WORDS. If there are words missing you can add it. These words added will be placed inside a COOKIE. If you do not allow cookies, you will NOT be able to add this feature. If you delete your cookies, these words will be lost

No need to explain to your members how it works. Inside the spell checker, there is a HELP link. It tells them about the features and how to use them

K seb I tried it but I don't really like it much. I hate when my screen flickers like that. I get headaches and it might not be good for those with seizures either but I am off to add it to the index.

I like the code as well just dont like that the text isn't big like the rest of my board, Im soo blind that I have a hard time seeing, is there anyway to make the text the same size as the rest of my board? I tried to do it through the eidt style but it still keeps it small?

It might be your IE explorer settings. Go to VIEW (In your browser) Then click on TEXT SIZE... and normaly Medium is default... So it should be that one chosen. Try that...

Other than that, I don't know how to change the text size.

To me, the spellcheck text size is normal... So it might just be your browser.

Dang... I get a very, very slight flicker as well. It doesn't bother me per se, but I don't know about my members. Also, I get a little intermitent clicking sound as I type as well. I like the symplicity of being able to install it, but the little quirks may make my members hate it?

We'll see....

I followed the instructions on this script.

Are you supposed to get a link for the user to click on to perform the spell check?

I didn't get anything on the new topic page to check spelling.

How is this supposed to work?

I deliberately misspelled words and they were not picked up by this "tool"

My understanding is that it will identify misspelled words by underliing them in red? Then you right click on the word to correct it?

On my site - zilch. Nothing is showing up different.

Help?

Squilax, as I'm not familiar with this script my question for you is what browser are you using? It might not be compatible if you're running anything other than IE. Just a guess on my part, hopefully the OP will come by or one of our coders to give you a bit of help.

I use a spell checker and what I have to do usually is to highlight all the text and then right click and choose Spell Check. Have you tried that yet? Otherwise, I don't know anything about this particular script.

You could get IESpell for spell checking. It's what I use and it works pretty good. Then it doesn't have to be on the board itself if you don't want it to be.

I am very unfamiliar now with exco as I havn't owned one of their boards in years. I have created my own from scratch.

Anyways, have you placed the codes exactly as posted?

Be sure to put the following code BEFORE the body tag:
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.jacuba.com/service/checker/-/-/" defer="defer"></script>

Then replace the body tag with:
<body onload="if (window.Jacuba) Jacuba.applyTo('element: TEXTAREA')">

I'll be sure to email you if there's a question about one of your topics. Thanks again and best of luck with the arcade.

IE spell is good, and if you use firefox, it has a good spell checker facility too. I think you have to download the plug in. It underlines spelling mistakes and you type, and you right click on the word and it gives you the correct spelling.
