Cheers Sivox, appreciate your comments, so I went and tidied it up a bit, I dont want to lose the banner box at the bottom as its a nice neat way of keeping all the links together......... well I think so anyway.
Thanks again

Posted May 24th, 2006 07:13 PM IP I know, its the excotopsites forum, they have a gateway up to stop people cheating on the voting on sites, and it seems every person has the same problem, I tried putting up a graphics button for their site, but it stops the voting process for your site.
I have contacted them and they say there is nothing they can do about it. ...... ces la vie ....

Posted June 22nd, 2006 09:41 AM IP thought it was about time I bumped this thread again.
If you know of anyone at all who has a child(ren) (of any age) with special needs then they are very welcome. We also recently introduced a special section for people who have sadly lost children either due to terminal illness , stillbirth or miscarriage (due to several requests from members)
Most of the info is tailored to the UK, but we have a few international members who have also found the site useful. The board is locked and there are only one or 2 forums that are "read only" for non members. But I'm sure you will all appreciate that there are some very personal thoughts and experiences posted and I want to protect our members as best I can.
We are incredibly lucky with our membership, they are all very friendly and supportive and I have made some wonderful friends.
Some of you already know that our daughter who is 20 months old has a rare congenital condition which occurs in 1 in 5000 live births, and we started the board because we couldn't find an easy to use, on-stop-shop type of thing anywhere that catered for parents in our situation.
And Peter - thankyou so much for Exco, we have looked at other board providers and nothing comes close.

Posted July 6th, 2006 06:46 PM IP Thanks, I loved your comments to Fin, and your 100% right, if 1000 people read your board and 1 person joins and gets something out of it, you have achieved something.
As the saying says "build it and they will come".

Posted October 1st, 2006 07:50 PM IP thought I'd give this a bump again,
we've reached nearly 22k posts.
we have had loads of new members, the latest batch were due to an article in one of the womens interest magazines that one of our members did about her wee boy who has PKU, and she mentioned how she found our site a godsend.
So if you know anyone who cares for a child with any kind of special needs please point them in the direction of www.extra-special-parents.org

Posted November 26th, 2006 08:08 PM IP We thought it was about time we gave yo an update, last night we reached the 30k post mark...... well chuffed now.
Credit goes to Debs for the running of a crackin board, the members for not letting us down, our mods for keeping the faith, and exco for keeping it all running smooth.
Well done all....... roll on the next 30k of posts.
Question, does anyone know how many big boards there are, I know Sivox's would have been well into the 50k mark if he had not changes alliances.....??

there's a lot of work goes into the board, Gibbie's the one responsible for all the graphics and scripting etc and I'm the one who does the research and info on the board and monitors everything on a daily basis.
We've had some more publicity in the press, local and national lately - so word is spreading. We're also working on ways to reach parents through childrens hospitals and neo-natal units, as we think it is important for parents to get support when their children are first diagnosed - this is often the most bewildering time for them.

Posted January 11th, 2007 07:30 AM IP thanks Faith.
we have been busy lately with the site and have added another messageboard - due to popular demand.
we have set up a board for children who have special needs and also for the siblings of children with special needs. Its a place for them to chat about issues that affect them at home and at school. How they feel about their condition or disability, how it feels to be the brother or sister of a child with a disability. We have also added some resources for them to have fun things to do eg print and colour, games, downloads etc.
The idea is that it is a safe secure place for them to relax and be themselves. I have my moderators from ESP helping me to keep an eye on things.
ESP Kids can be found at http://s3.excoboard.com/exco/index.php?boardid=241
All 3 of the Extra Special Parents boards can be accessed via www.extra-special-parents.org
All 3 boards are open only to members due to the sensitive nature of the information contained within.
And this is the year where we look into becoming a registered charity.

Posted February 2nd, 2007 03:48 AM IP plans are well under way now for our first ESP meet in Englandshire in April as well as regional meets across the country over the summertime. I'm so excited about meeting all these amazing parents and their even more amazing children.
We also have a meeting next week to see about applying to become a Scottish Registered Charity.

Posted February 7th, 2007 07:51 PM IP We forgot to mention that on the 6th of January this year we were one year old.
we also topped 40k posts, and have 200+ active members, if we had kept all the members (the ones who never posted) we would have have over 400 members, but its best to face reality and thin out the ones who dont post or contribute.
So roll on next year, see what the next 11 months brings.

and if any of you have an account with Bebo, Gibbie makes personalised skins for a small fee and all proceeds go to ESP
