Posted November 22nd, 2011 04:14 PM IP It seems to be down again. Probably just reverted to an old backup temporarily. I'm sure all will be right again soon.

Sorry. I didn't mean to panic anyone. I'm sure they just temporarily reverted to an old backup of the server.
Pretty sure when they do get it up and running, it will be back to normal.

Posted November 22nd, 2011 04:26 PM IP For now I've moved S2 to the S1 server using a backup from November 5th. I'm still trying to get a newer copy from the other server, which still is unavailable to me.
The company chosen to host server 2 is large corporation, but they've proven to be very incompetent with extremely bad customer service.
I will give them another couple of hours. If they can't get the server running we're unfortunaly left with this old backup. I will update you as soon as I can. Peter,

Not quite. What Peter is saying is that the current server 2 data is a backup from November 5th being hosted on server 1. As soon as server 2's backups become available everything will be back to normal. If anything, all new posts from this point forward on server 2 might be deleted when the updated backups get applied. I could be wrong though.
Peter, why are backups of the server, kept on the server? Wouldn't it make sense to have the backups located elsewhere >.<
Also, have you thought about disabling new boards from being placed on s2? Wouldn't look good for there to be an error in new boards. Excoboard Terms of Service

Posted November 22nd, 2011 06:34 PM IP Since S2 was recently moved, offsite backups hadn't been setup yet. For the time being backups were made to local disk, which is now unavailable.
Since they still haven't gotten the server online I have now enabled "the old" S2, with a backup from Nov 12th, meaning we're missing 10 days of posts.
Should they get the server online within the next 12 hours, I will restore a more recent backup. If it takes longer I won't do a restore as we would lose the posts made from this point on.
I apologize for the problems this have caused you all, it was certainly not my intention with the server move. Peter,

Posted November 22nd, 2011 07:42 PM IP Thank you Peter for the updates. In all the years I've been with Exco, this is the first major problem I've had with the board. I'm certain you'll get us running in no time.

Posted November 22nd, 2011 08:21 PM IP Yes, thank you Peter for the updates. We started in '06 and this is the first big headache. I have faith in your ability to do the best.
Luckily I am able to remember the couple bad dudes who were disabled and re-disabled them before they could figure out they could have posted!
Fingers and toes are crossed for a complete restore....

Posted November 23rd, 2011 12:32 AM IP I think we all need to cross our fingers and pray to the gods of hard drives before we go to bed that our precious ten lost days are found once again and Peter performs a minor miracle. Hopefully we will awaken to find that all is restored and this was all just a bad dream. Good luck, sir, and godspeed.
(This was the most religious thing I have ever posted, including the time I was in charge of the bulletin board at church.)

I gotta say I share the same sentiments... our board with Exco has experienced very few problems.

The members of the WJF hope that the lost posts get restored... but if they don't, then yeah, we'll live with it.
easy... Justin

We have no doubt you're doing the best you can to sort this out. Thank you for that.

I just wanted to let you know that if there's is any chance you can get those 10 days back, me and other members at the WJF would rather wait a few more days and have those posts back (even if it means we'll lose the posts made from now on).
the posts that will be made today will mostly be posts asking what happened and in our case, if posts more important are being made, I can save them and post them later.
while losing the posts from the last 10 days would be way more annoying...
but again, thank you Peter and good luck with this!!!

I know our board agrees with this. Especially with the holiday coming up we won't have much posted. And I've warned them

exactly, I didn't think of this at first because I live in Europe, but most of our members are in the US, so the end of the week is gonna be slow anyway.
