hello Cantalope  and welcome to EXCOBOARD!
adding an avatar is not very difficult. you could go into your Profile and click on Image Gallry then Enable the gallery.
after that is completed, just create a folder, name it something like Cantalope's Stuff then upload your favorite picture from your computer. (hopefully the picture is about 100 pixels square)
then grab the link and simply insert it into your Profile where it say's Avatar
(I'm pretty sure that's all there is to it)
