Posted 02-08-10 04:48 PM IP (In the interest of full disclosure, I will start out by saying that I got this idea from a poster at Inside Sparta.)
Now that Coach Mac is taking the reigns of Sparta, an interesting questiont that was brought to my attention was, will the names of players be brought back on their jerseys?
Personally, I like the names on the back of jerseys. I like identifying who is who because with the coming and going of so many players, sometimes its hard to keep track of who is who. Plus, for games that are nationally televised, it would help identify players when they make a great play (or plays) so that people who don't normally follow Spartan football can say "Oh yeah, I remember so-and-so made that amazing play"
Just a thought. When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don't adjust the goals, adjust the action steps.

Posted 02-08-10 10:21 PM IP I like it the way it's been, without personal names. The team name (Spartans) is the only one that matters to me, unlike the NFL where egos reign. I read their jersey numbers and look them up in the program. I enjoy doing the research and memorize them quickly. Go Spartans!

Posted 02-09-10 02:09 PM IP The names were removed two coaches ago to bring about a stronger "team" atmosphere. I don't think a lot of attitudes were changed. Names on the jerseys help the fans in the stands or watching on TV--SJSU needs to do anything it can to make fans happy and to makae the game experience better. This would be one way to help a little.

Posted 02-09-10 03:26 PM IP Personally, I like the theory of a "team atmosphere". If you look at history, and numerous movies, the Spartans did not glorify the single soldier, but rather the unit. The single soldier had to rely on his fellow soldiers in order to win. The same could be said about a football team. No single player can succeed without the rest of the team behind him.
