Mike MacIntyre reached for a San Jose State-blue three-ringed binder in his still sparsely furnished football office and began flipping through the 172 pages.
It contains the outline of how to run a football program, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. MacIntyre has spent his adult life assembling what he calls simply "The Book" in preparation for this moment when he would become a head coach.
Pages 6 through 8 are the ones he constantly refers to now: The first 90 days. There are check marks in pen next to completed items.
"Every single detail is accounted for, and nothing is left untouched," said MacIntyre, who was hired Dec. 16 to replace Dick Tomey. "Football is not rocket science. But if you don't have everybody on the same page, it shows up on Saturdays."
