"My Favorite Christmas Story" written by Roy Rogers is a great book to read as the Christmas Season nears. It is a small book but is the Christmas story in Roy's words.......(written many years ago).

Last night, I re-read "GrandParents Can" by Dale. Each time I sit and read this, I love it more and more!

I found the Salute to Sandy book very moving. Little did I know Roy & Dale were in many of the same places at almost the same time (1966) in Vietnam (Da Nang, Saigon,. and Chu Lai). They even prayed at the same Chu Lai beach makeshift chapel shortly after I was there doing the same thing. Dale's stance on not removing our faith chaplains in a war zone was right on. They were great people and extremely brave.

Their young son really had a burning desire to serve his country and go to Vietnam. He always claimed he would someday make them proud. No one can doubt he made good on that promise, from all the comments from his fellow soldiers, later serving in country.

There are so many different things thrown at a young (18) kid when he enters the service it is almost unfair peer pressure, especially in a wartime period.. I was lucky enough to go in after graduation from Iowa U at 21, so it was much easier for me to cope. I always tried to help the young marines and Navy kids around me (as best I could) and get them to see the big picture. The braggards and the bullies always will be with us....we just have to see them for what they are a little sooner.
(Edited by Eowawa)

Chief Blackhawk (Hawkeye) once said,' this is the place I shall make my stand' as he crossed the mighty Mississippi into Ioway Territory in 1832. Roy always respected the Native Amercans in all his films and had Choctaw blood. Native American Tribute & Musical Wigwam site http://eowawa.com

Roy and Dale books are so good. For about the past year, I have had at least one book on/by/about them out from the library. I can't stand to give them back!

I took Dusty's book with me on my trip this last week and enjoyed it once again. It looks rather worn now.....got it when it was published and Dusty autographed it for me a couple years ago...made it even more Special.

I got "Growing up with Roy & Dale" and read it one morning before I got out of bed. It was great! It was really neat to have a different perspective of their life.

I recently read Growing up with Roy and Dale with my brother (Meatball) We had alot of fun! Right now we are reading Dale: My Personal Picture Album.

"My Personal Picture Album" by Dale is MANY years old and the pics are a treasure. I wish some Family member would write a new book showing pics of Family in recent years.

I am enjoying reading the posts and trying to remember the ones I've read. I've read all three books by Dale, about their children, The Answer is God, and Spiritual Diary. I read the book Dale wrote at the time Roy went to be with Jesus. I haven't heard of the books that the children wrote, but plan to check with the library and get them to read also.
And even though I know no one is perfect, I'll bet that the differences between the public Rogers and the private Rogers were small and probably more of a blessing to read. One thing for sure, it wasn't easy being a celebrity kid, especially one whose family were genuine Born again Christians. The pressure must have been enormous.

YankeeNana...In some books, it seems as though Dale shares more than most people would about their private lives...which were never very private.

After church today I was looking in our library for an Anne of Green Gables book and I found (much to my surprise & delight) Dearest Debbie! I can hardly wait to read it!

CowboyFan: You have in your hands a very touching book. It must have taken a lot out of Dale to write this little book about Debbie. She was a cherished member of the Family and she and Dodie were so close.....the pain of her death is shared in the book.

I read that RR wrote a book (Not 100% sure on the title) called A Little Christmas Story, or My Favorite Christmas Story. Has anyone read it? If so, what exactly was it about? Thanks.

Leah: I had time to go thru my books and the title of the book which you refer to is: "My Favorite Christmas Story" and written in 1960 by Roy Rogers with Frank S. Mead. The publisher is: Fleming H. Revell Company. I have a hardback copy and there is 64 pages. At time of purchase in 1960 when I purchased the book, the cost was $1.50. The Library Of Congress Catalog Card Number is: 60-13095.

Wow! You have ALOT! I don't own a single one, but my library has the 1979 copy of HAPPY TRAILS, and parts of it are falling out, so I'm hoping I could buy that when they decide to get rid of it. I'm hoping...

I always bought a book the moment released. I could hardly wait until it was in a bookstore! My book that is personally autographed by Dale is my most treasured...it was the last book she wrote.

I don't think I would either, but some of them are so doggoned expensive! But money can't keep me away for long, I'm persistent about Roy Rogers stuff!
