Did everyone take off on vacation? I like to drop in at the message board everyday or so just to check on the latest posts. Since there hadn't been any new messages since 7/6 I thought I would just mosey on in, drop the reins, let the horse have a little hay, and say hey.
We (the members) should make a point of keeping up the traffic on the MB. Happy Trails.

My 14July question exactly.
It's good to keep activity on this message board. It is provided for and paid for by the Gift Shop at the RR-DE Museum. So, we should be using this forum as both a resource and a place of enjoyment.
Except for a brief absence in 2006-07, I've been a part of this group from the beginning. I've been privileged to meet many new friends since - here, by email and in person. I started out as Cowboy D and ADave changed it to Cowpokey D by suggestion of another member in y2002.
Many different guys and gals have come and gone during the 7 years the Official Roy Rogers - Dale Evans Message Board has been in existance. For those who have not posted for a long time, we miss YOU! I repeat my earlier welcome to long-timer LanceRR for his return.
Just consider this: Roy Rogers and Dale Evans continue to bond folks together even though they graduated to Heaven's golden streets 10 and 7 years ago respectively.
I do enjoy exchanging ideas and facts with members here.
Many thanks to ADave and the Rogers family for providing this message board. May it continue for a good long time.

I know a lot of us are busy with vacations, work, school, etc. But you're both right, Cowpokey D & Drifting Gunfighter: we should keep up the activity here.

Since posting this I have been thinking I should have used "Howdy" in the title rather than "Hi." But I guess howdy, hey, or hi, it all works.

"Yo!" works, too. That's Goober's National Guard talk from the The Andy Griffith Show. Not exactly "cowboy talk," though. HehHeh!

Following my own advice and saying, "Howdy all."
I noticed that the most members online at one time was 24 on 10/16/07.
With a little organization / coordination I bet we could break that. All we would need to do would be to agree on a time (and pick a time zone so everyone could adjust it according to where they live) and then see how many members we could get to log on at the set time.

I think that would be a great thing to try and accomplish!!!
Let's try it!!!

yes... very busy, but fun! Trigs got to drive a stage coach - until he started losing control of the mules, it was a bumpy ride but the driver took over.... It reminded be of the ride that Dale had in the boot of the stagecoach in "Don't Fence Me In". Thank goodness we didn't have any cheese!

Thinking back to the first generation message board, I seem to remember one day when there were 30 or 40 different posters on.
I may be wrong, but I don't think that number of 24 on 16Oct07 means at one time; rather over the stretch of one day. That is very do-able!!

It seems to me that we ought to have a contest or something about Roy and/or Dale to help get interest going again with the message board. I'd be glad to put up a prize to sweeten the deal. Everybody is busy, I know...any ideas?

BTW, I'm not talking about a big, huge prize now. Just something collectible and interesting to enhance one's RR/DE collection. Maybe ADave would have an idea.

Hmmm.....I'll have to think on it. *thinks about what sort of contest we could have* Maybe a poetry contest about Mrs. and Mrs. Rogers? We could pick an attribute of theirs- something that we admire the most, and write a poem about that. Or an Essay.

I would say essay. But that is just because I am not a poetry writer. (That's fine if we do that kind of a contest though!). I think having you draw, write, or make something would be special. Hmm... *goes off imagining RR cakes. )

I'd rather write poetry myself. I'm not much of an essay writer. I'd take a stab at it though.

Perhaps we should have both. Some of us are better at poetry, others at essays.

Cowpokey D, I have a few suggestions for prizes: a Roy Rogers sheriff's badge, an autographed photo of Roy & Trigger, a little Breyer Trigger (no longer in production, but occasionally eBay has some affordable auctions for one), the book Growing Up with Roy & Dale by Dusty, a Roy Rogers 2008 calendar, Roy Rogers & Trigger mug, a cap gun and leather holster set, Roy Rogers pocketknife.
If any of these are too pricey, unavailable, etc., feel free to eliminate them.
Would it help if we made a poll out of the choices for prizes?
Let us know what you think!

If we use the gift shop, there are those collecters cards which are not expensive, um, a RR/DE picture... or just the satisfaction of knowing you did a good job!

Well, actually...in the thought of economy and keeping this contest a low-key, relaxed event, I was going to donate a prize from some of my RR collectibles. I guess I can re-think it if necessary. Let me speak with ADave about it and I can let yo'all know inside of a week.
In the meantime, I'll let you decide what kind of participation contest you would like to have. After all the thoughts are collected, we can set up a poll and decide democratically.
The winner can be chosen by a poll, too.

Good idea about the polls. You know...just a thought, we can always have another contest after this one- so if we do a poetry one, we can do a essay one next, for example.

*is excited about this*

Cowpokey D, whatever you choose as a prize, I'm sure we'll be happy with! Since it will be a RR collectible, we'll love it!

I agree: the polls are a good idea!
CowboyFan, I like the idea of ongoing contests. That way everyone will get a chance to use their skills.
I'm really excited about this, too! I think it's a good way to revive this mb.

Can I post a picture my sister drew and pretend it's mine?
Just kidding! What I really mean is: if you do a drawing contest, can my sister compete instead of me, even though she's not part of the mb?

Great idea... poetry or song or essay contest about RR/DE. Prizes aren't necessary, maybe the winner could have their winning poetry, song or essay posted at the RR museum if that is approved...

Just ideas..
