Posted October 17th, 2007 10:35 PM IP I'm new here. When I was a kid, Roy was my friend. I never met him or even saw him in person but still, he was my friend.
Years later, one day while driving down the interstate I heard Roy singing "Hoppy, Gene and Me". It had been a long time since I'd heard my friends voice. It was a sweet moment.
So here I am today, 57 years old with two grandkids and worried about what is to become of our great nation and the world. I'm bombarded with Britney, Patis, Lindsey, Howard Stern, PDitty, Anna Nichole Smith and the rest of the MTV universe. Roy, Dale and our parents generation passed stewardship of our Country to us Baby Boomers. I don't think we've done a very good job with it.
So anyway, sometimes a fellow just wants to stop and visit with an old friend. That's why this is a nice place. Your friend,
Louie

Posted October 23rd, 2007 10:02 PM IP Louie...Here I am, 60 years old, and I still "know" Roy is My Friend. I grew up with him as My Friend, My Pal, My Hero. All of this will forever be a part of who I am no matter where I am or who I am with.....some of what Roy taught all of us will ride in my heart thru all the trails I wander. ( .....I have 5 Grandkids.....one grown and soon to be in Iraq).

Posted January 6th, 2008 11:34 AM IP I don't suppose I'm always grateful for modern technology. Since the PC revolution of 1980, I will have to admit that I have often stated that computers are a mixed blessing, for example. However, I am blessing film and video and audio recording for allowing us to further treasure the contributions of the cowboys, especially Roy. All we really have to do to enjoy them again is to play them. None of the cowboys could have envisioned these extensive legacies when they began their careers, and I hope they'd be pleased that we can call their voices and their performances up by hitting buttons. I suspect that when it's this easy, people really should expose their children and grandchildren (and beyond) to this perfectly wonderful Americana. DocPattyRL

Posted January 12th, 2008 09:23 PM IP You are absolutely right, docpattyrl. We do need to expose the younger crowd to thes wonderful films. A problem I've run into lately is that my grandkids will not watch anything in black and white, so we need to get all the color films translated to dvd and perhaps even get some of the B/W films colorized although I hate to think of that, it may be the only way to get the younger crowd to watch them. Posted January 21st, 2008 06:02 PM IP Sometimes I have the kids dress to the time period turn out the lights, light candles and put a RR Radio show in the CD and have the kids listen. Then we talk about the differences. I was raised near Amish Country no it wasn't unusual for some friends not to have electricity. There is nothing so calming then a quiet night without the TV.. now if we can convince ourselves of that.. hee hee. Trigs Mom
