Posted September 15th, 2007 09:04 AM IP My husband, Will, our grandson, Zach and I went on the White House Tour on 8-17-07 and as we walked into the White House through this rather long hallway, we were looking at all of the portraits framed and we came across this picture of Roy and Dale with President Eisenhower and Mrs. Eisenhower along with their grandson, David, celebrating his birthday. The photo was taken in 1956. My grandson who is 9 spotted the picture before I did and pointed it out to me. Roy was dressed in a cowboy suit and Dale had a fur stole on for the occasion. I was so surprised to find that picture, but I shouldn't have been as Roy and Dale were heroes to so many thousands of fans. The birthday table was decorated in a "Roy Rogers" theme. It seemed to me only proper that there would be a picture of our heroes displayed in the White House for generations of people to see. Yes, we enjoyed all of the portraits of the presidents and first ladies, but I will always remember the special one of Roy and Dale. Have Faith, Hope & Charity. That's the way to live successfuly.

I'll be that was a great feeling that. "How can we not believe in the greatness of America?...we cannot, must not and will not turn back. We will finish our job. How could we do less? We're Americans."

That would have made any party complete...be it young or old! Thanks for providing this pic for the MB to enjoy! I seem to think I have seen this pic long ago somewhere...but a Joy to see again!

Posted September 16th, 2007 04:12 AM IP Look at the decorations on the table...even the cake looks like cowboy decor. It would be something to hear what David Eisenhower would say today in recollection of that event. "How can we not believe in the greatness of America?...we cannot, must not and will not turn back. We will finish our job. How could we do less? We're Americans."

Posted September 16th, 2007 11:42 AM IP I hadn't thought about what David could recollect about his birthday party with Roy and Dale there, but I bet he remembers a great deal about it, Cowpokey D. Also I want to thank ShutterbugKELLY for coming up with the picture. I was real happy to see it. Also, I plan to go through all the books I have on my bookshelf to see if I can find which book may have had included it. Sorry it took me so long to get back on the message board. I just had to capitalize my name to figure this out. Have Faith, Hope & Charity. That's the way to live successfuly.

I agree, Brenda. That must have been front-page news!!
Then, too, David Eisenhower was a youngster during the time that Roy and Dale's popularity was soaring. Every child would like to have been there.
Many children who were in hospitals and orphanages had the privilege of meeting Roy and Dale because of RR/DE's desire to bring happiness into their lives. I'm glad Roy and Dale did. I have a police officer friend who works with the gang unit here and her prime focus is trying to keep the young ones age 11 to 14 out of being drawn into the lure of gang culture. Too bad indeed we don't have some media stars these kids could look up to and learn the right ways to live from instead of the lawbreaking, DUI, drugs and general lout culture that is Hollywood today.

Posted February 18th, 2008 03:21 PM IP I really don't think that it's too much of wishful thinking. I think that mabye if there were enough people willing to stand up for it something might happen. Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright that God may love thee. Speak the truth even if it leads you to your death. Safeguard the helpless. That is your oath. (strikes him across the face) That is how you shall remember it. Rise a knight!
Knighting out of Kingdom of Heaven
You will listen to me. Listen! The Bretheren will still be looking to us, the Black Pearl, to lead. And what will they see? Frightened bilge rats aboard a derelict ship? No! No, they will see free men and freedom! And what the enemy will see is the flash of our cannons! They will hear the ring of our swords and they will know what we can do. By the sweat of our brows, and the strength of our backs, and the courage of our hearts. Gentlemen, hoist the colors.
