Posted August 27th, 2007 05:53 PM IP That was awesome! I have never heard anyone yodel better than Roy. He sounded just the same as in his younger days. “Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get — only with what you are expecting to give — which is everything.” ~ Katherine Hepburn, actress

Posted August 28th, 2007 12:27 PM IP Hmm, I would say the ONLY yodeler that I thought came close Roy was Rex Allen. He was pretty good. Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright that God may love thee. Speak the truth even if it leads you to your death. Safeguard the helpless. That is your oath. (strikes him across the face) That is how you shall remember it. Rise a knight!
Knighting out of Kingdom of Heaven
You will listen to me. Listen! The Bretheren will still be looking to us, the Black Pearl, to lead. And what will they see? Frightened bilge rats aboard a derelict ship? No! No, they will see free men and freedom! And what the enemy will see is the flash of our cannons! They will hear the ring of our swords and they will know what we can do. By the sweat of our brows, and the strength of our backs, and the courage of our hearts. Gentlemen, hoist the colors.

Posted September 2nd, 2007 02:25 PM IP When we watched and listened to Roy yodel on the 60 Years of Harmony video, it was much like it had been before. This was in November of 1994 and, though he recently had gone through surgeries, Roy still sounded like Roy.
When he came out on stage, the applause continued for a long time for him. My, he deserved every bit of it!!!! You could tell what everybody felt at that electric moment!!! There are several different ones. Is it George Morgan's Candy Kisses? If so, just go to Yahoo or any search engine and type in "lyrics to candy kisses" and pick the one you want. Amanda Perez did one, too, but doubtful that it's the one. "How can we not believe in the greatness of America?...we cannot, must not and will not turn back. We will finish our job. Posted September 5th, 2007 03:15 PM IP Here you are, Tex.
These are off the "Song Lyrics" topic.
Grand Canyon Trail
Now if I’d have my way, how I’d like to sort of stray,
The land enchanted as a fairy tale, every night my dreams go ridin’, down the Grand Canyon Trail. The moon is there on high, sittin’ pretty in the sky,
And a man can gather stardust by the pail.
Every night when dreams go ridin’, down the Grand Canyon Trail.
The river’s, a ribbon, of silver, and the fireflies are playin’ peek-a-boo.
And may I kinda causally mention, there’s many a perfect run-day-voo for two.
And if I bide my time, there’s a chance in time that I’m gonna meet someone who will listen to my tale,
And we’ll share the dream that’s ridin’, down the Grand Canyon Trail.

Posted September 7th, 2007 01:13 PM IP Here's another version. Evidently Roy and the Sons of the Pioneers changed the words to fit what they wanted for verbal content.
Old Sky Ball Paint was the devil’s saint, his eyes were a fiery red.
Good men have tried this horse to ride and all of them are dead.
Now I won’t brag but I rode this nag till his blood began to boil.
Then I hit the ground and ate three pound of good old western soil.
Singin’, “Hi-ho, lad, don’t you make me mad,
I’m the devil’s great grandson.
And I’m doin’ my best to tame the west
With my great big forty-four gun.
I swore, by heck, I’d break his neck for the jolt he gave my pride.
I threw my noose on that old cayuse and once more took a ride
He turned around and soon I found his tail where his head should be.
So I says, says I, “Perhaps he’s shy or he just don’t care for me.”
Singin’, “Hi-ho, lad, don’t you make me mad,
I’m the devil’s great grandson.
And I’m doin’ my best to tame the west
With my great big forty-four gun.
In town, you see, just to have a spree when I meets old Sheriff Jim.
With fistic fun and my big six-gun I buys the town from him
For a whoop and a holler and a counterfeit dollar. Then I ask for a bill of sale
But my face turned red ‘cause the contract said just thirty days in jail.
Singin’, “Hi-ho, lad, don’t you make me mad,
I’m the devil’s great grandson.
And I’m doin’ my best to tame the west
With my great big forty-four gun.
Where the greasewood bats wear Stetson hats and the bad men all run free,
Where they sold the jail at a bargain sale, that’s the land for me.
Where the desert ants wear buckskin pants and help me rule the land.
With the ants and the bats and my two gats I’ll rule with an iron hand.
Singin’, “Hi-ho, lad, don’t you make me mad,
I’m the devil’s great grandson.
And I’m doin’ my best to tame the west
With my great big forty-four gun.
The above came from the following website:
http://www.bobnolan-sop.net/index.htm
I guess it must be authentic as it was listed by Bob Nolan's grandson. "How can we not believe in the greatness of America?...we cannot, must not and will not turn back. We will finish our job. How could we do less? We're Americans."
Ronald Reagan 1984

Posted September 21st, 2007 04:56 AM IP Robert Phillips says of Roy in his book, "...when playing for the dances, he used his mom and dad's guitar. They taught him to play at an early age, and he and the girls picked up on yodeling as well, something he would do in fine style the rest of his life..."
Another source said that Roy and his sisters used to yodel across the fields.
Now wouldn't that have been something to hear, Roy and sisters yodeling together?
I would wonder at this point if there had ever been a recording of Roy with his sisters? "How can we not believe in the greatness of America?...we cannot, must not and will not turn back. We will finish our job. How could we do less? We're Americans."

Yes, there are many great yodelers. But still, I rate Roy as the best.
Do they still have the yodeling exhibitions at Gene Autry Festival? I have a tape of one of them (GA Festivals) when they had a group of girls and young women in a yodeling session. It was something else!! "How can we not believe in the greatness of America?...we cannot, must not and will not turn back. We will finish our job. How could we do less? We're Americans."
