Since there are so many here who seem to enjoy writing, I thought it might be a good thing to have everyone contribute. In other words, I'll start the story and each one who would like to add to it can improve the plot by "copy and paste" what has already been written to the next posting window and then continue by writing what they think the next segment should be. (There used to be a game one could play that this whole exercise is based upon.)
Remember...no part of this story should go beyond the bounds of the MB.
Ready? Here goes...

Okay...who's next?

Her captor came up behind her then passed her. "Come on he said this way!" As they rounded the corner Dale saw Roy with his guns drawn. She breathed in relief.

Her captor came to a halt and pulled his gun. "Hurry get behind Roy" he yelled. Both her captor and Roy ran toward the canyon opening guns firing.

Safely behind the rocks that fronted the opening of the canyon, Roy, Dale and her captor paused to catch their breath.
"What is going on? And who are you?" Dale anxiously asked the one to whom she had just a moment before dropped her loaded gun to distract.
"No time to explain," he replied as he took off his bandanna.
"Pat, what are you doing here? I left you in town with Dave. You're supposed to be going to the land office." Dale could not hold back her frantic questions.
"Just a minute, Dale," Roy intervened. "You're supposed to be the one going to the land office. However, I'd like to know myself just how Pat got here in such a hurry."
The stranger smiled for the first time and then answered, "First off, I'm not Pat. And in the second place, I'm here on official business. I represent United Insurance Company which has an interest in the activity here. My name is Phil."
"Phil!" Dale exclaimed Dale. "Why you look just like Pat."
"Of course I look like Pat. We're........"

...cousins," Phil explained. "His dad and mine were brothers, and both of our moms were sisters. The resemblence used to get me into more than enough trouble," he added, with a funny face.

Dale chuckled. "You're related to Pat all right! I can tell with that comment!"

Phil rubbed and peeled off most of his dark make up. "I am an agent of the government investigating the disappearance of Professor Galloway. I had been seen with the Professor quite a lot back East and we think the party responsible is from the East also. “…new formula that would… Wait a minute. Why am I telling you two all of these details? I’ve said too much already.”

Dale’s thoughts were still reeling from the announcement of this man who looked so much like Pat Brady as to be his twin brother and now this. Secret agents, an insurance company and supposedly its representative is involved and a near-confession of Pat’s cousin, if he in fact is a cousin, it was too much for her resolve.

Roy’s voice broke into her thoughts when he was saying, “I think we should move from this location and then we can carry on this conversation longer.”

To prove his point, he began moving deeper into the canyon.

“Roy, do you think we should be going further up what might end up being a trap? I mean, canyons aren’t usually easy to get out of,” Dale was asking.

“Don’t worry, Dale. This canyon isn’t a blind canyon, as I’m sure our new friend here already knows,” Roy answered with a stern look toward Phil.

Phil was quick to answer, “I don’t know what you mean, Roy. I’ve never been here before.”

”Well, we’ll talk about that later,” was Roy’s quick answer.

Dale was filled with questions. However, the one on her mind at the present was what Roy meant by all this dark talk.

They continued for a few minutes up the rocky lane that seemed to be getting cooler.

Roy turned as to say something, and then he stepped back quickly to Dale’s side.

”Where did Phil go?" Roy asked anxiously.

Dale looked around and sure enough, Phil was gone.

As if answering his own question, Roy said, “Come on, we’ve got to get out of here fast.”

“Roy, what’s going on?” was Dale’s only response.

Had Trigger been an automobile, he would have been a Crosley.

"Just get going!" Roy said.

Dale nodded, and mounted Buttermilk.

"Liston, go alert the sheriff whats going on!"

"Well, frankly I don't know whats going on!"

...government agent, that's for sure. But I don't think he's with our government. And as for an insurance representative, that, I believe, is just a cover. Now will you get going? And don't say anything to Pat."

This time Dale did as Roy had instructed, climbed aboard Buttermilk and headed back to town.

Meanwhile, Roy watched her go making sure she was following his advice. After Dale disappeared from sight, Roy worked his way back down to where they had seen the government agent the last time.

"Well, it sure looks like Phil gave us the slip. This ground is far too rocky to follow a trail.'

Suddenly Roy heard a slight noise to his right. He dropped to his knees to keep from being seen. Out of the brush stepped an indian, whom Roy recognized quickly as his friend Yellow Feather. Roy rose up and the two friends looked at each other and then grinned.

"Yellow Feather, it's good to see you. You couldn't have showed up at a better time," Roy greeted him.

"Roy, it's good to see you. When was the last time?"

Roy said, "it was probably when we were together at that festival over on the other side of the mountain. Trigger and I were slated to do some tricks during the rodeo when you asked me to help you find your father."

"Oh yes, well, it's good to see you again. But why did you say that now was a particularly good time for me to show up?"

Roy's voice dropped to a whisper and he guided his friend to the edge of the rocks away from the direction he thought Phil may have gone.

"Well, we are involved in something that is trouble for this area. We don't know for sure but I need your help and your ability to track someone. Can you still do it?"

"For you, my friend, I will do anything," was Yellow Feather's answer.

Roy began, "okay, here's the story..."

Had Trigger been an automobile, he would have been a Crosley.

Once Roy finished telling Yellow Feather all that he knew they decided they needed to come up with a plan. But first they would head back to town and see what Pat and Dale had come up with.

Roy mounted on Trigger while Yellow Feather mounted his beautiful paint. As they rode toward town both kept their eyes and ears open for any sign of Phil or the other gun slingers. All was quiet. Almost too quiet.

Yellow Feather and Roy headed toward the Sheriffs office. Both had agreed it was time to see what the sheriff knew, if anything.

Roy's head snapped up. "What is it? questioned Yellow Feather.

"Oh I was just thinking. Opal mentioned that Pat was napping just like Gabby. I don't remember her meeting Gabby or us mentioning him. There is something that Opal isn't telling us. I am beginning to wonder about her."

"You know that is odd." Yellow Feather agreed. "Are you sure you didn't mention Gabby in front of her?" Looking up as Dale rode toward them.

"Hey Roy!" Dale hollered cantering Buttermilk stopping between Yellow Feather & Roy. "I just thought of something. How well do you know Opal?"

"We were just discussing Opal. Why do you ask?" Roy questioned Dale.

"Well .... " Dale started to say.

"I just thought of something. She seems very familiar with this area for a city girl. Also, did she ever give you any idea of why her father was kidnapped? THey haven't gotten a ransom not or anything, have they?"

Roy cocked his head on one side. "You know, Dale, sometimes you come up with ideas." Ignoring her snort, he added, "She didn't ever mention anything."

"I thought so!" Dale exclaimed. "Seems kinda funny that we'd be led into a trap like this when we're trying to find her father..."

Roy frowned. "Aw, Dale, I think you're making a mountain of a molehill. Opal and her sister seemed to be a couple of nice girls out to find their father. As for why he's been capturesd--well, I don't know about that but I'm betting it has something to do with that Phil character."

"Like what?"

"Like maybe something with that formula he talked about," Roy mused. "Remember that other case we worked on, when that guy who did chemistry for a hobby invented a new explosive--and got himself almost killed on account of it?"

"You think this man who is kidnapped did this?" Yellow Feather broke in.

"I think maybe he came up with something that would make a foriegn company interested," Roy said. "Right now, I think maybe we should go have another talk with Opal and Hannah."

May God keep you smilin' down a million happy trails!

"I was passing through Silver Canyon last week when I overheard him and another man arguing. He wasn't very nice. I left not wanting to hear more then I already did." Yellow Feather replied.

"What exactly did you hear? Can you describe the other man? " Roy questioned.

Roy raised an eyebrow and looked at Yellow feather.

Yellow Feather grinned and said. "Okay I am joking. Seriously though I did see and over hear something. The guy was a skinny fellow. Looked kind of like an Eastern dandy only wasn't dressed like one. He acted like he was scared of this Phil guy.

I didn't catch everything they said but I did hear...."

Roy had just set up camp in Silver Canyon when he heard what he thought was hoof beats farther up the ravine. He looked over at Trigger to see if he had heard the sounds as well. Trigger's attention was to the direction that Roy thought he'd heard the hoof beats, so he decided to investigate.
Turning to his dog, he said, "Bullet, stay here. I just want to see what's going on."
Creeping forward, he rounded a slight bend in the canyon when...suddenly Trigger came up behind and pushed him with his nose. Turning Roy saw something or someone slinking through the boulders. He turned to follow and saw another movement to his right. Quickly he scaled the canyon wall to get positioned better. Peering from behind the boulder he saw....nothing! There was not a thing in sight. But Roy knew he had seen something, so he...quietly crept back to his campsite, packed everything up and started moving up the canyon in the direction of the noises he'd heard. He knew he was getting closer when Trigger's ears were up and Bullet was growling in very low tones. Roy was beginning to get a bit nervous because every time he shift his weight, the saddle would creak.
"That's the last time I'll ever use this plastic saddle from the Rose Bowl Parade on a trip, " he thought.
"Well, what do we have here?" Roy questioned out loud...there laying on the ground was a broach. A bit dainty for a cowboy thought Roy. Roy dismounted and pulled the saddle off of Trigger. He swung up on him bareback. "That will take care of the squeaking," Roy whispered to Trigger as they picked their way through the rocky canyon. Bullet pulled his lips back as he rumbled staring down the canyon path. Roy glanced around seeing no one he move forward until....he realized there was a cliff right in front of him! Roy wheeled Trigger around and saw a masked man standing in front of him....Roy quickly pulled his gun. "Well hello there. Mind telling me who you are? asked Roy. The masked man responded by.....shooting the gun from Roy's hand, and saying "None of your business"..."You are a little quick to use that aren't you?" Asked Roy.
"You would be too if you were in my boots" the masked man replied.
"Why don't you tell me about it?" Roy questioned. About that time Bullet lept from a boulder and brought the gunman down. Roy jumped from Trigger. "Down, Bullet" he commanded petting the dog. Roy reached down and pulled the masked man to his feet. "Like I asked, who are you? You sound a little young for a bandit."
The masked man stuttered. "Well I... I.. I am"...
"A young person like you ought not be traveling on the owl-hoot trail, Son," Roy advised.
"Don't call me Son. I'm not a boy!"
Roy was a bit embarrassed as he said, "Well, I'll be. You're a..."

Girl!" "Well, what of it?" The girl said defensively. "Nothing" Roy said with a smile. The girl turn"Just hold on a minute! Where are you going? No better yet why are you here? That was some nice shooting, but you don't seem like the gun slinging type to me. " Roy quickly fired questions at the girl.

"If you really want to know... ed to leave, but Roy caught up with her.
..." Started the girl, "I'm looking for my father, who was last seen on this trail. My name is Hannah Galloway," the girl finished. She straightened her hat and was about to walk off when...
Shot richoshade off of the canyon walls. RR dove shoving the girl behind some boulders. Trigger ran down the canyon a ways and Bullet behind the boulder with the girl and RR.

"Well since we are stuck her together I might as well introduce myself. I am Roy Rogers" Raising his brow he glanced at the girl waiting for her reply.

Grudgingly holding out her hand, she said. "Hello, nice to meet you. I think. And thank you for saving me."

"Look!" Roy pointed there is a cave between those rocks... let’s see if there is a tunnel."

"What about your horse?" Hannah questioned.

"I saw Trigger heading back to the camp site. He will come if I whistle but for now he is safer at the campsite." Roy replied. "Come on lets go."

As Roy takes lead he told Bullet to stay with the girl.
Roy entered the tunnel and glanced around. He could barely see anything, but he kept going. When he turned around Hannah was gone! Roy ran out of the tunnel, but didn't see her. But he did hear Bullet barking.

When Roy found Bullet, Hannah wasn't with him.
"Where'd she go Bullet?" Roy shouted. Suddenly his Hat blew off, against the canyon wall.

He reached for his gun in his right holster.
Suddenly Roy took a hard hit to his jaw. He doubled his fist and swung making contact. Roy looked done and shook his head. "Pat, what are you doing!"

Ah well, sorry Roy I didn't know it was you!" A young lady told me someone had kidnapped her younger sister and well I was coming to find you and..." Pat stammered.

"Okay you found me." Roy raised an eyebrow rubbing his jaw.

"Well we saw her sister running out of the cave. I just naturally assumed there was one of those kidnappers coming out after her." Pat continued.

"Naturally" Roy said dryly.

"And well and um..." Pat stammered on.

"I can figure the rest out,” Roy laughed. "Where is Hannah and her sister?" he questioned.

"Oh" Pat said cheerily. "They are over yonder behind the boulder."

Roy whistled for Bullet patting his head and he came up. Walking toward the boulder Roy looked about. It seemed all to quiet, other then Pat's rambling. They rounded the corner and peered behind the boulder.

"Well hello there?" Roy smiled.
A girl, who looked like an older version of Hannah, looked horrified. "THIS IS THE PERSON WHO KIDNAPPED YOU! RUN!"

Roy laughed and told her who she was.

"Well, that’s ok then. My name is Opal".
Roy laughed and told her who she was. All this while he was ducking as she threw rocks in his direction. Luckily her aim was off.

"Ouch!" Pat howled hopping on one foot. "The group laughed".

"I'm sorry Pat" Opal apologized smothering a giggle behind her hand. "I guess I panicked with things being the way they are." A worried look puckered her brow.

"My friend and his wife have a cabin nearby." Roy stated. "Let’s head over there. I am sure they would love to meet you. We can spend the night there since it is getting too dark to move on."

"Oh good" Pat nearly jumped for joy. "Beatrice is the best cook on this side of the canyon"

Roy laughed, whistled for Trigger. The group mounted up and headed toward Dave and Beatrice's cabin.

"Well, that’s ok then, My name is Opal".

Bullet dashed ahead as they got near the cabin.

"Mmm, I smell steak, potatoes and beans" Pat said as he sniffed the air.

"It does smell good but I can't tell what kind of food." Hannah said licking her lips.

Roy leaned back in his chair. "Well thanks Beatrice you really are the best cook on this side of the canyon" Roy said.

"Only on this side?" Beatrice raised her brow.

"Oh no you too.... just because your siblings doesn't mean you can boss each other around." laughed Dave.

"While we are relaxing why don't you tell us about your dad and how you and your sister got here." Roy said looking at Opal.

Opal's face suddenly became shadowed. "We're on…a camping trip," she said. "My sister and I go on them quite often."

Roy looked keenly at her. Was it his imagination or was she avoiding his gaze?

"What made you think Hannah had been kidnapped?" he questioned.

Opal's eyes darted over at Roy. "Well--there's been a strange-looking man hanging around our camp. When she disappeared this morning--I guess I just jumped to conclusions."

"Strange-looking man," Roy mused, still watching Opal carefully. "Don't you think this is a little rough country for your sister and you to be camping alone in?"

"We can handle ourselves all right," Opal assured him crisply. "Both Hannah and I are excellent shots."

Roy let his eyes twinkle over at Hannah. "I noticed that this morning," he said dryly. "But there are some fast guns around here. I'd like to know more about this mysterious man who was following you around--and also the real reason you're up here."

At Opal's startled look, Roy grinned. "You're not up here for a camping trip," he informed her. "What's the real reason?"

"well...um..."Opal nervously glanced at her sister.

"Like I said, we are looking for my father.." Hannah said.

Opal looked upset "Why do you go and trust people so easily?" She asked.

"What about your father?" Roy pressed.

He came out west.. and left Opal and I at a boarding house in the east. He said he was coming for us once he got settled. We received a telegram from him, and it said the date he would come. We waited a week, but he never showed up. We've traced him to here, and are looking for him." Hannah said.

"What was your father doing out here?" Roy asked.

"We don't know. Here is his last letter stating that he was in Silver Canyon. He said that he had a great surprise for us." Opal stated. Taking a letter out of her pocket she handed to Roy.

Roy read the letter and handed it to Dave. "What do you think?" Roy questioned Dave.

"Well there are some new homesteads going up not far from here. Maybe one of those were his. We might want to ride to town and see who has any homesteads near here." Dave reasoned.

"Why don't you girls stay with us while the men go to town. I could do with some company." Beatrice suggested.

"That is fine said." Hannah, looking questioning over at Opal.
Opal nodded in approval.

"Well let's head out" Roy stood up walking to the door. "Pat! Are you coming?"

"Huh...Oh yeah... Um.. I wasn't napping just resting my eyes" Stuttered Pat.

"You are starting to sound like Gabby now" laughed Opal.

The men mounted up and headed to town. Roy told Bullet to stay behind and guard the cabin.

As they arrived in town....

…there suddenly was a wild commotion from inside the saloon. Crash! A chair came flying out the window, followed by a string of Spanish spoken faster than the ear could follow. The next minute, a grizzled old man clutching a batter black hat stumped disgustedly out the door.

"Hey, Gabby!" Roy called, putting Trigger into a lope and heading to his side. "What's all the ruckus?"

The older man looked up at him. "Aw, it's that durned fee-male thang," he muttered through his beard.

Roy reined Trigger to a stop and elaborately rested his elbow on the saddle horn. "Let me guess," he drawled. "By 'fee-male thang' you mean Estelita Martinez?"

"Who'd ya think?" Gabby demanded. "Durned character burst in that bar agin an' started a fight tryin' to get that no-good cousin of hers out. It's gettin' so a man can't hev a peaceful drink in town without havin' to duck flyin' chairs!"

"Aw, you poor thing," Pat sympathized. "I know just how you feel. Why, last time I ran into that Spanish gal she told me Nelly Belle was a heap of rusty tamales!"

"That's terrible," Roy said sarcastically. "What an insult to the tamale. Hey, Gabby," he added, before Pat could splutter out a response, "there's some trouble up Silver Canyon way. Care to sit down a minute and talk it over."

"More trouble?" Gabby bellowed. "Now, that's jist what I need! First chairs takin' three years growth off my beard then ye comin' an' tellin' me you dug up another hornet's nest o' trouble."

Roy shrugged and mounted Trigger.

"Well," Gabby said when he saw that Roy was going to leave without him "I guess I better go, because you need someone like me, smart and quick at the draw, to help keep ya out of trouble."

And Gabby mounted his horse.

"Pat, have Dale go to the courthouse and check on who put in for a land claim. Gabby and I will head out to Silver Canyon and look around while Dave, you hang around town and see what you can hear. "

"Quit your jaw-n and come on" Gabby grumbled as he turned his horse and head toward the canyon. Roy on Trigger thundered past. Triggers golden mane and tail flying in the wind.

"Pretty sight, isn't" Dale said coming up behind Dave and Pat.

Pat whirled in his saddle. "Gee whiz, Dale, quit sneaking up on me!" he yelped.

Dale Evans grinned, her green eyes twinkling at Pat. "If you'd keep your eyes open I wouldn't be able to. Where's Roy going in all that hurry?"

With Dave's help, Pat explained to Dale what had happened in Silver Canyon that morning.

"Kidnappers?" she demanded, as Pat finished, out of breath. "Say! I'd better get out there and keep Roy from getting himself shot into pieces."

"No, wait!" Pat yelled, as she pulled her cowboy hat up onto her dark red curls. "Roy told me to tell you to go to the courthouse and check on who might have put in a land claim. Besides, Gabby's goin' with Roy an' he can keep him out of trouble."

Dale's dark eyebrows flew up. "Gabby's going to! Oh great. Now I know one of them are going to get shot."

She put two fingers into her mouth and whistled shrilly. A white buckskin with black points came streaking out from around the corner of a building. "Good boy, Buttermilk," Dale said, catching his rein and vaulting into the saddle. "You go check that land claim thing, Pat," she called over her shoulder. "I'm going to go check on Roy."

She headed off down the street at a lope. Pat sighed heavily and turned to Dave. "Oh, boy. Now Roy's gonna get mad at me. Havin' Dale out there with a kidnapper loose is just like havin' dynamite runnin' around with a lit fuse!"

"Well, we'd better look at the land claim." Dave suggested.

Pat agreed and then took off down the street.

Meanwhile, Dale was galloping through the woods towards Silver Canyon.

"Honestly, it seems like the second things quiet down around here something else goes wrong," she grumbled. Then a half smile curved her lips and she reined Buttermilk in a little as he tried to take a curve too fast.

"Easy there. I guess you don't mind excitement, huh?"

Suddenly, a flicker of motion from a stand of trees to the left caught her eye. Instantly, she threw her weight back in the saddle and brought Buttermilk to a halt.

Her eyes scanned the clump of trees. There the movement was again! It was a flicker of silver--from a gun?

Suddenly, a cold voice spoke from behind her.

"Okay, little lady. Get your hands up and get off that horse."

Dale felt a shiver go up her spine. Uh oh.

Carefully, she did what the man said--and then turned to face him. He was tall, dressed in ranchers clothes and wearing a dark hat and a bandanna. But what froze Dale in her tracks was the small amount of face she could see above the mask. It was dusky, like a Mexican's, and it was criss-crossed with tiny scars that twisted the skin.

"Drop your gun," he ordered. "You're coming with me."

Dale swallowed hard--then forced a smile. "Why sure," she said sweetly, and--dropped her gun.

Bang! It exploded--just as Dale had intended when she cocked the hammer. With a startled exclamation, her captor jumped back--and Dale leaped for Buttermilk's saddle.

In seconds, she was mounted and had whirled Buttermilk back towards town--then she froze in the saddle. Two more men, guns out and spitting fire, were running out of the trees to block her path.

I don't have a chance to get through them, Dale thought frantically. Making up her mind, she whirled Buttermilk again and sent him into a pounding gallop up the trail...further into SIlver Canyon.

The resemblance used to get me into more than enough trouble," he added, with a funny face.

I had to disguise myself so hoping to get a chance on finding the kidnappers and Prof. Galloway. He was working on a .... "

Roy turned to say something, and then he stepped back quickly to Dale’s side.

”Where did Phil go? Roy asked anxiously.

Dale looked around and sure enough, Phil was gone.

As if answering his own question, Roy said, “Come on, we’ve got to get out of here fast.”

“Roy, what’s going on?” was Dale’s only response.

"Just get going!" Roy said.

Dale nodded, and mounted Buttermilk.

"Listen, go alert the sheriff what’s going on!"

"Well, frankly I don't know what’s going on!"

"Well, Phil is a....."

...government agent, that's for sure. But I don't think he's with our government. And as for an insurance representative, that, I believe, is just a cover. Now will you get going. And don't say anything to Pat."

This time Dale did as Roy had instructed, climbed aboard Buttermilk and headed by to town.

Roy said, "it was probably when were together at that festival over on the other side of the mountain. Trigger and I were slated to do some tricks during the rodeo when you asked me to help you find your father."

"Oh yes, well, it's good to see you again. But why did you say that now was a particularly good time for me to show up?"

Roy's voice dropped to whisper and he guided his friend to the edge of the rocks away from the direction he thought Phil may have gone.

"Well, we are involved in something that is trouble for this area. We don't know for sure but I need you and your ability to track someone. Can you still do it?"

"For you, my friend, I will do anything," was Yellow Feather's answer.

Roy began, "okay, here's the story..."

-----

Once Roy finished telling Yellow Feather all that he knew they decided they needed to come up with a plan. But first they would head back to town and see what Pat and Dale had come up with.

Roy mounted on Trigger while Yellow Feather mounted his beautiful paint. As they rode toward town both kept their eyes and ears open for any sign of Phil or the other gun slingers. All was quiet. Almost too quiet.

Yellow Feather and Roy headed toward the Sheriff’s office. Both had agreed it was time to see what the sheriff knew, if anything.

Roy's head snapped up. "What is it?” Questioned Yellow Feather.

"Well ....” Dale started to say.

"I think maybe he came up with something that would make a foreign company interested," Roy said. "Right now, I think maybe we should go have another talk with Opal and Hannah."

"Hey, wait a minute," Roy exclaimed. "Isn't that Phil riding into town, or is it Pat riding on a horse?"

"This is getting more confusing every minute," Dale added.

"Well, Roy?" Yellow Feather asked. "What do you want me to do now? I will tell you this; I've seen that man before and I don't mean as your friend Pat Brady."

Everyone's faces showed shock at the newest development.

"Where did you see him?" Dale asked.

"I saw him....well, I was passing through Silver Canyon last week when I overheard him and another man arguing. He wasn't very nice. I left not wanting to hear more then I already did." Yellow Feather replied.

"What exactly did you hear? Can you describe the other man? “Roy questioned.

Well, he had red, spiky hair, a big hat and he rode a BLM burro named Witch. That was really all I heard and saw."

Roy raised an eyebrow and looked at Yellow feather.

Yellow Feather grinned and said. "Okay, I am joking. Seriously though I did see and over hear something. The guy was a skinny fellow. Looked kind of like an eastern dandy only wasn't dressed like one. He acted like he was scared of this Phil guy. I didn't catch everything they said but I did hear something about a man named Jonathan. I don't know who he was, but they both seemed kind of "in awe" of him."

Roy frowned. "Hmmmm....."

"How can we not believe in the greatness of America?...we cannot, must not and will not turn back. We will finish our job. How could we do less? We're Americans."

"Dale, I think you need to go speak to the girls. They might open up to you more then us. Don't let on you know what it going on." Roy stated glancing toward Pat who was riding toward them.

"No problem, since I really don't know what is going on here" Dale quipped as she turned her horse toward Dave and Beatrice's home.
She grinned as she heard Pat whining.

"The peoples around here are just going plain loco." Pat grumbled his face contortioning. "I jus keep getting into trouble today. Did you know that Sara Riley chewed me up and spit me out for not saying hello to her earlier today. I never even saw her. And you know how she is when she not happy.. complain, complain, complain. I never heard anyone complain so much!"

"We have" laughed Yellow Feather pointing at Pat.

"Well! You all plain loco". Pat sputtered.

Chuckling Roy replied. "Well seem you have a double running around here." Then in a more serious tone Roy said. "His name is Phil and we were just heading over to the sherriffs office and try to find out more information on this shady charactor. What information did you and Dave find out from the land office? Speaking of Dave where is he?

"Oh he went to the hotel. Said he thought of something he wanted to check out. Did Beatrice kick him out?"

Laughing Roy answered. "No I don't think he is looking for a room for himself, but lets ask him here he comes."

"hey guys you aren't going to believe what I found out" Dave said as brought his horse up to Roy and Yellow Feather. "People kept blaming Pat for being at one place or the other when he was with me most of the time, so I got thinking... there would have to be two Pat's to be all the places he was supposed to be. Well I went to the motel and sure enough there was the other Pat!"

"Yeah his name is Phillip" Yellow feather commented.

"No." Dave said puzzled. "His name is Paul Linkle. He is from back east from a large research lab. I couldn't find out much else though."

"hmm, I wonder" Roy said, a glow in his eyes. "Come on guys! Pat you go get the Sons of the Pioneers" It is time for a party this weekend. I think we will make the girls' father the guest of honor."

"Now how can we do that!" Pat sputtered. "We don't even know where he is!"

"Oh yes we do! Come on we have a lot to get done before the party!" Roy exclaimed as he and Trigger cantered on ahead.

Pat looked blank.

"Any idea what Roy means?" He asked Dave.

But Dave was following Roy. Pat hurried to catch up.

"Roy.. what do you mean????" Pat yelled.

"Well," Roy said as he slowed Trigger "Opal's dad is..."

"Well you will figure it out soon enough" Roy laughed. "Meanwhile we need to get ready for the party. I'll ride over and tell the girls to help organize the party. I am sure that the girls will have no problems getting everything together and I know that ladies from the school and church will have no problem coming up with plenty of food. Pat, you ride over and let the boys know we will be playing tonight for a full crowd. Have them meet me at the old at the cave at Silver Canyon in about an hour. Dave, you come with me. We need to get some things ready for the party. " Roy stated with a twinkle in his eye.

"Yes, I think we do" Dave chuckled.

"I think everyone here has gone loco!" Pat grumbled as he headed off to tell the boys of Roy's plan, at least what he knew of it.
