Posted June 14th, 2007 07:16 PM IP I think it’s about time that someone started a Favorite Dale Era poll. Goodness knows we’ve run ones on practically everything else! So here goes.
My favorite era of Dale is definitely the Roy Rogers Show. To me, she was closest to her real personality in there. And she was able to play the kinda roles she worked best in—the funny, witty, slightly tough but also very gentle Texas-drawlin’ ranch gal. This era just takes the lead though, over the Apache Rose to Pals of the Golden West era. In my opinion, that was almost as good as the Roy Rogers Show!!
May God keep you smilin' down a million happy trails!

I just prefer the style of the movie then. (With Gabby and Sons of the Pioneers). Hot Heads and Cold Hearts never solved anything.

Posted June 15th, 2007 10:28 AM IP Dale certainly was spunky in some of those (thinks of Don't Fence Me In and Heldorado...)! I like her best when she's playing a ranch girl, though, and she played a city slicker in most of those. I do terribly miss Gabby and the SOP in the later movies. Republic must have had its brains screwed on wrong to let them go! May God keep you smilin' down a million happy trails!

I liked it best when she could be nice as well as spunky and I like her because Dale was always so genuine. He's the King of the Cowboys, a legend in his time a man who loves his country, where he will always ride! Saddled up on his golden palamino, with a six-gun at each side, he has given us precious memorys and Happy Trails for me and you!

Posted June 25th, 2007 11:30 AM IP I think she did a real good job playing the uppity city slicker gal in many movies. She could turn on that aloof know -t-all style in a wink and sell it to everyone around her. She was so good at doing that that even her own kids, watching her films years later, used to always get after her for being so darn 'mean and snooty' to poor Roy, ha ha !! If that is not solid proof...what is???
Can't you just see Roy sitting back and laughing slyly at those interchanges. Chief Blackhawk (Hawkeye) once said,' this is the place I shall make my stand' as he crossed the mighty Mississippi into Ioway Territory in 1832. Roy always respected the Native Amercans in all his films and had Choctaw blood. Native American Tribute & Musical Wigwam site http://eowawa.com

Good for you! So did I! Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright that God may love thee. Speak the truth even if it leads you to your death. Safeguard the helpless. That is your oath. (strikes him across the face) That is how you shall remember it. Rise a knight!
Knighting out of Kingdom of Heaven
You will listen to me. Listen! The Bretheren will still be looking to us, the Black Pearl, to lead. And what will they see? Frightened bilge rats aboard a derelict ship? No! No, they will see free men and freedom! And what the enemy will see is the flash of our cannons! They will hear the ring of our swords and they will know what we can do. By the sweat of our brows, and the strength of our backs, and the courage of our hearts. Gentlemen, hoist the colors.

Actually, when you think about it, the era that Dale had the most influence on started, of course, in 1912 but as I stated before, which is a little bit in error, it didn't stop in 2001...it is still going on and I'm pretty sure, it will continue for a long time to come.
Dale is still having a great influence on us all, wouldn't you say? "How can we not believe in the greatness of America?...we cannot, must not and will not turn back. We will finish our job. How could we do less? We're Americans."

Posted August 21st, 2007 07:35 AM IP To us that have seen RR/DE perform live or on their TV program and in movies, how can we not be influenced by both of them all our lives...maybe some more than others. Some people change but, I figure the majority that have been dear fans will always be such and in being a fan, we take on the standards of life they lived/taught us.

Posted August 21st, 2007 02:13 PM IP Dale was a woman's rights activist in some ways. She made it cool for a woman to have her own thoughts, do her own thing outside of the house and have the confidence to allow herself to be herself, even if it wasn't what the majority of woman in the world were doing and thinking at the time. She was so many things: song writer, actress, horsewoman, daughter, niece, mother, wife, a Holy advisor, author, and probably so many more things than I know of her.
