Has anyone besides RR Senorita, RRFan, and myself seen Sunset in the West. This was one of Roy's later films and it also appears to be a rather rare one with little mention of it. It was aired uncut and in Trucolor on the Westerns Channel. It was also part of a VHS box set marketed by Republic (distributed by Artisan) as a tribute to Roy shortly after his death. The color on this one is excellent. Penny Edwards is Roy's leading lady. Unfortunately the sidekick is Gordon Jones. The VHS version from the box set shows up on e-bay from time-to-time. I believe it can also be found on www.amazon.com.

The whole kidnapping deal with Roy in here was a bit original, huh?? That was one scene where I was DYING for Dale to show up and take some action. PE was awful in that movie.

RR Senorita,

The kidnapping was certainly different. I also agree with you that PE didn't add much to this film.

She was like limp spaghetti. She didn't start firming up, either, till Spoilers of the Plains. After that, she was pretty good. (Specially in Heart of the Rockies!)

I have to agree, Penny Edwards is one of my least favorite actresses.

It is original! Probably one of the only reasons I like it so much, Penny Edwards was limp spagetti!!!!

Don't forget, it wasn't her fault that her character was written that way.

Don't forget yourself that they normaly wrote the heronies for their type of charactor in real life. When you think about it that way....

Really? I never knew that. Oh well, I still really like her, she's tied with Mary Hart for Leading ladies in 2nd spot.It seems to me that every herione who's not DE is always compared to DE, and I don't think it's fair. DE was one of a kind, as far as I'm concerned, there'l never be another DE or someone who could be fairly compared with her. She was just that special. So maybe we shouldn't put every other herione up to the same standards that DE set.

That's true that DE was one of a kind, but I still don't like PE much--whether she was like DE or not. Linda Hayes was nothing like DE but I still liked her. In my opinion, PE was just not as good an actress--that's why her roles got better as time went on. If she'd continuted acting with Roy she'd probably have gotten really good.

I'm glad she got better. I guess that if someone hasn't been acting long, (if that was the case with PE) she was still sort of trying to find her place and test her capabilities out in NoTGD, Sunset in the West, and a few other RR's. I like her role alot in Trail of Robin Hood.

*shakes head in wonder at others not liking Penny Edwards*

By the way, I don't mind if you guys call me crazy for liking her so much. I've been called crazy before so it's nothing new

CowboyFan,

Although she lacked the personality and energy of Dale, I thought Penny Edwards did okay in most of the RR films she appeared in. Her best roll was most definitely in Heart of the Rockies. So not everyone thinks your crazy for liking her. Dale added so much to the series that anyone taking her place was going to have considerable difficulty.

I should see Heart of the Rockies. It sounds good. I'm glad not everyone thinks I'm crazy. I'm not sure why I like her, I just do.

I don't think you're crazy for liking PE! I do think liking her role in Trail of Robin Hood requires a strong stomach. I like PE in Heart of the Rockies--very much--and I like her in Spoilers of the Plains (even though she was a little stiff in there) and I liked her role In Old Amarillo, even though she wasn't in it much. I guess the truth of the matter is that Dale was so unique and so perfectly suited to Roy that any post-Dale heroine fell kinda flat.

However, I really liked PE in Heart of the Rockies, Lynne Roberts in Eyes of Texas, and Jane Frazee in The Gay Ranchero. They were all very good!
