Posted January 9th, 2008 07:39 PM IP I don't know if this counts, but I was once in a studio providing critique for Pennsylvania Ballet. I think they had just finished Rodeo onstage at Academy of Music or something, but they were in the process of choreographing a very modern ballet. During the rehearsal, the ballet master stepped out and told one of the dancers to slide over and off another dancer as if he were Roy Rogers showing how he could mount, then dismount Trigger in the blink of an eye. I choked back laughter! DocPattyRL

Posted January 10th, 2008 08:53 PM IP Last night, I was reading End of the Spear by Steve Saint (son of Nate Saint, one of the five missionaries who was speared in January 1956 in Ecuador by Auca Indians [they are now know by their own name for themselves: the Waodani]). He tells about his aunt and a wife of one of the slain missionaries' going not long after the men were speared to the Waodani to reach them with the Gospel before they killed each other off (the tribe's homicide rate was 60%). Most of the tribe accepted the Gospel, choosing "to walk God's Trail" that He marked with His "carvings" (the Bible). Steve grew up with them and considers them family.
Anyway, I came across a mention of Roy Rogers. Steve and a friend of his used to run a "home theater" in his mom's living room. They showed Gene Autry's and Roy Rogers' movies on a movie projector to other kids while they were in Quito, Ecuador.
I thought that was pretty neat. I think I remember I heard that when my dad reading the book, but I'd forgotten about it. Cool, huh?! “Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get — only with what you are expecting to give — which is everything.” ~ Katherine Hepburn, actress

Don't forget that some of the most collectible RR items are those produced in other countries. Roy had a very large fan base in England and I'm sure that there were other large fan clubs, too. Well, I'm not saying that just for the reason of RR movies going to Spain would they be worth alot. Rather, there certainly would have been fewer to go to Spain (i.e.), so therefore, the rarity makes a Roy Rogers movie more valuable in terms of fan collectibility and familiarity...yes, in terms of $$, too.
It is unfortunate, however, that there are RR collectors who are in it for no other reason than to see an increase on their investment. They're not part of a fan base...they just want the $$$. Such a shame...the name of Roy Rogers means so much more than just capital gain. "How can we not believe in the greatness of America?...we cannot, must not and will not turn back. We will finish our job. How could we do less? We're Americans."

Posted January 16th, 2008 09:09 AM IP We live in James Dean's hometown. So therefore, I see much that has to do with him.
James' cousin, whom I know very well and who holds all the copyrights for James Dean, has a collection of his cousin's theater placards and movie announcements from countless countries...most in the language of that particular country.
Common stuff? Nope. Mighty hard to get? Yup!!
I'm sure it would be the same for Roy Rogers merchandise from any other country. "How can we not believe in the greatness of America?...we cannot, must not and will not turn back. We will finish our job. How could we do less? We're Americans."

Posted January 16th, 2008 12:27 PM IP I couldn't help but think of Roy yesterday when I heard "A Rhinestone Cowboy" being played on The Music of Your Lives by Glen Campbell.
Roy always said that he was the one being portrayed in the lyrics of the chorus of that song which are:
"...Like a rhinestone cowboy, riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo; like a rhinestone cowboy, getting cards and letters from people I don't even know, and offers comin' over the phone..."
"How can we not believe in the greatness of America?...we cannot, must not and will not turn back. We will finish our job. How could we do less? We're Americans."

You too? Glad to know I'm not the only one! Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright that God may love thee. Speak the truth even if it leads you to your death. Posted February 7th, 2008 11:26 AM IP I've noticed that our local radio/tv stations use "Happy Trails" for certain events. When my daughter played high school basketball, one school played "Happy Trails" for the losing team when that school won. We were on the losing end occasionally but I couldn't help but smile. My daughter would glare at me because she "knew". Jersey Girl

A Milwaukee radio station, "Talk-Show Host", always closes his 3 hr. show everyday by playing HAPPY TRAILS theme song.
I listen to the show ---- the last 5 minutes, so I can here the H.T. song being played. It's a song you never get tired of listening to.
