I'm glad you like them! I've read all but 4 of them, and I'm going to get one of the special editions soon. I tried reading the Phantom Stallion series-I started a book yesterday, but I couldn't finish it. It was...not boring, but not something I want to read again. I like Heartland alot better.

What did you not like about the Phantom Stallion Serries? I think that they're really good, and if anything a little less-modern than the Heartland serries, even though they were written at the same time.

I've read all the Heartland books, and I've read one special edition. Are there more than one?

You will listen to me. Listen! The Bretheren will still be looking to us, the Black Pearl, to lead. And what will they see? Frightened bilge rats aboard a derelict ship? No! No, they will see free men and freedom! And what the enemy will see is the flash of our cannons! They will hear the ring of our swords and they will know what we can do. I'm not sure why I didn't like the Phantom Stallion series...I just didn't. Right now there's one special edition, but there's another one coming out soon I think.

Mention of Roy Rogers in other TV shows: Wiseguy series (1987-1990).

One Wiseguy episode concluded with Ken Wahl's character (Organized Crime Bureau undercover agent) Vinnie Terranova and others gathered by a campfire by a stream at night singing Happy Trails.

Trigs & Cowboy got their haircuts yesterday at the barbers and a the conversation started about old cowboy songs and heroes... guess who's name came up.

Trigs thoroughly enjoyed his haircut and the elder gentlemen enjoyed hearing a youngster talk about RR the king of cowboys.

I don't have the time to go back through all this thread's pages to see if anyone has mentioned this; so if I've doubled-up on one, please forgive me.
Today's episode of I Love Lucy is the first one of two of the John Wayne episodes with L and E.
Lucy and Ethel along with Fred are standing outside Graumann's Chinese Theater admiring the footprints of many of the stars that are in cement. Of course, they're trying their own feet in the star's footsteps. They find John Wayne's plus several others but Ethel is complaining that her feet seem to be bigger than most of the stars' prints. Fred says, "Hey Ethel...here's one set of footprints that are probably bigger than yours...TRIGGER'S..." It's been a long time since I have had the fun of watching that episode. To say the least, I laughed much!!
By the way, the final John Wayne episode is on tomorrow (20Dec07) if anyone can watch it in their area. Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to see it.

Last night, December 22, on the WSM 650 AM GRAND OLD OPRY SHOW, in between shows, they were interviewing some of the fans that were coming into the Rymann Auditorium for the second show. One of the persons that they interviewed, they asked him his name, and he said it was -ROY ROGERS. the host asked him if he had his name changed to Roy's. He said no, and that was his birthgivin name.

Awhile ago I was reading a gun magazine that had an article in it about this one movie cowboy's guns. At the end they said, "Only one other star ever carried these exact make of guns - ROY ROGERS." I can't remember what magazine it was, now, though. I'm mad at myself for that!

Today (30Dec07) was my last Sunday as pastor at the church we've served for several years.
The cake is what was presented at our "going away" reception.
Take a look at it at:

http://members.tripod.com/roy_dale_dusty/id18.html
The cake was inscripted that way because they know how much a fan I am of Roy and Dale. They even served "Trail Mix" to eat along the Happy Trails.

I was reading an interesting article today, about the guy who trained the horses in Lord of the Rings. It said that he started riding when he was two, and in the '40s he did movies with Mr. Rogers and Gene Autry, as well as other movie cowboys. Interesting...

I just found another mentioning of Roy! I was just watching the old '50's movies, "Bells of St. Mary's" and at one point, a young boy in the school mentions that he loves watching a good movie -- namely, one that starred Roy Rogers. I had to agree with his taste!

We were watching "Exploring Oklahoma" the other day. It was devoted to silverscreen cowboys from Oklahoma. Tom Mix etc... and then there was mention of the Simpson Merchantile from Enid. It is a brother and friend team that changed their store into a silverscreen museum and movie set. they do low budget western movies. In their interview they mentioned some of their heros from when they were kids... Hopalong Cassidy and Roy Rogers of course were mentioned.

We went there is summer. It was pretty neat.
