I remember two more places where RR was mentioned: One was one a Parelli DVD that my sister was watching about fear and riding, and one of the instructors said you can't just take this video home and ride like Roy Rogers.

The other one was in a book by popluar Canadian Historian Pierre Berton, and the book was about the many movies that Hollywood has made about Canada, and it mentioned North of the Great Divide and Roy Rogers. The book is really informative, and did you know that Hollywood made around 705 movies about Canada that weren't even filmed in Canada, and most of them represented us wrong, but at least the RR movie didn't!

Elton John and Bernie Taupin wrote a song "Roy Rogers" that is on Elton's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album.

I just heard a radio show refer to Roy and Dale! It's a word-quiz show I listen to a lot, and they were trying to figure out what a word means. Believe it or not, two people referred to Roy. The bad part is that they were making fun of him. However, it wasn't mean fun, and actually, it didn't bother me that much--I've gotten really mad at other people before! They were more kidding around. Roy would've gotten a kick out of it. I really forgave them, though, when they said that maybe they should apologize for kidding when their definitions turned out to be wrong. It really made me aware once again just how much Roy and Dale--and Trigger!--are still part of people's lives.

I have it! It was in an article in a horse magazine about this generation of kids, how they are don't have DE or Annie Oakley as their heroes, but they still enjoy Western traditions.

This isn't exactly a place where RR and DE are mentioned, but my bed room window is open right now, and it's raining, and fresh rain always reminds of DE (don't ask me why, 'cause I don't know!)

Durango Kid: Thanks much for that great picture of Roy and Trigger on the front cover of Shoot Magazine. I've never seen that shot before, but it is great. I printed it off on photo paper and it came out beautiful.

Some lady called up Michael Savage on the radio the other day from out near Victorville and at lst Michael was not sure where that was located. Then as they talked more he said, isn't that the place where Roy Rogers used to take Trigger to let him feed on the good hay? The woman laughed and said I think you are right. He is right of course, in more than just that way, ha ha.

I found another one of these! This time, our family was watching a movie on how to train your horse to do tricks. I figured Trigger was going to be mentioned sooner or later--and sure enough, he was, along with Roy, as one of the best trick horses of all time. In fact, the two were mentioned over and over. Every time, my parents groaned--and I cheered!!

He he! I have a Cowboy stories book that I bought last year very impulsivily, but I had to buy it since RR was mentioned in it alot. The other day when I was looking at his story in it, I started crying really hard. I'm not quite sure why. The paintings in that book were good too. I forget what it's called though.

That seems kinda normal, them groaning I mean.

I remembered another place where I heard of Roy and Dale. This story, actually, I read long before I started watching RR. In fact, it was probably one of the first references to them I'd ever found.

The story is from the book "With Love From Karen" by Marie Killilea. IT's the sequel to "Karen" and both books are the true story of a girl born in the '40's with cerebral palsy. Her parents went through much of what Roy and Dale did with Robin, although they were actually able to find someone to help Karen. Her mother, a writer, decided to write the stories to show that CP childern can be helped--much as Dale did with "Angel Unaware". The books are wonderful, but the way--I HIGHLY recommend them.

I'm getting a little off-subject. Anyway, this story happened when Karen was about 14. She and her family had gone to Madison Square Gardens (I think that was the place) because Roy and Dale were making a live appearance there. Anyway, after the pre-performance stuff the two of them galloped their horses into the ring and started to go around the walls. Suddenly, Dale saw Karen and pulled Buttermilk up. "Why, you're Karen, aren't you?" she exclaimed. (The first book about Karen had been published by then.)

Karen was thrilled, of course, and she and Dale talked for a few moments. Then Dale have to leave to complete the performance. But at the end, when she was supposed to finish in the center of the arena with Roy, she rode Buttermilk over to where Karen sat and bowed--just for her.

I absolutely love this story. Marie Killilea put into words exactly what I felt--"It was a gracious salute, from a gracious lady."

May God keep you smilin' down a million happy trails!

Well Michael Savage did it again this week on his national radio show. He must have loved RR/DE growing up as we all did. He was annoyed at some caller for ref to his gay firend as his life Partner and that set him off. He said what do you think this is...a Gabby Hayes 'partner' thing? No it is a brokeback mtn corrupted and warped misuse of that honored term from Gabby and I for one RESENT the misapplication, greatly! That goes double for you straights morons out there too..stop calling your wife your 'partner' too...I'm sick of it. Call her honey, darling, dear lady anything but this western term from Gabby, that means sidekick, buddy. He really got ramped up on this topic!!

One other place I heard of Roy recently was again in Horse Illustrated. They were running a short article about how some toy companies are starting to re-make those automatic horses that used to stand in front of the stores. Guess what they used to illustrate the story. Yeah, you got it. An automatic horse in the shape of Trigger!

BTW, Eowawa, you said it when you said a husband should refer to his wife with a "special" name and I can say my hubby calls me Baby and that is fine with me.....that shows his everlasting affection/love for me and the bond we hold sacred.......just as my wedding ring encircles my finger with total love forever.

I got a few more-once, I saw an ad for a mini RR rocking horse in a Horse magazine, and I've seen him mentioned time to time in Reminice magazines. Last night, my sis and mom and I were watching a movie called "Virginia's Run" and one bratty kid said "Happy Trails" as he drove off.

I suppose. But he deserved what happened after wards-you see, he had put his horse trophy on top of his car, and he forgot it as he drove off, and it broke.

In the 1998 Leslie Nielson comedy "Wrongfully Accused" a weapons expert is going over all of the fancy features of a new gun she designed. Pointing at the trigger, she states that it has, "a Rogers palomino trigger."

I wonder how many people watching the movie get it.
