That's a very special find, Mrs. Castilla! I found an RR mention today that is in much the same way as your's. My younger brother yesterday got a book about 100 years of NHL hockey, and in it they showed pictures of the original six arenas and stadiums that were home to the original six teams. The New York Rangers played, and still play (although I think it's an "updated" version of the original place), in Madison Square Gardens, and in the old black and white photo that they had in the book of the original building, they had Roy Rogers' appearance at the Rodeo advertised! It was a rather neat "find", as we weren't expecting it!

I mentioned Trigger at VBS this week and they wanted to know who Trigger was... so of course I had to tell them all about RR.

I am sure that it has been mentioned earlier in this thread but I am enjoying seeing Roy, Gabby etc in the Hotel commercials. Also, these commercials have been on a while so they must be favorably accepted.

WE often here "Happy Trails" and great compliments about RR&DE at many of the rodeos that we attend. He was an example even for many cowboys and still looked up to by many rodeo people.

Just today I saw a news site article on the history of lunchboxes (it was part of a back to school theme, I think) and the picture they used as the thumbnail/link to the article was a picture of a Roy Rogers lunch box.

There was an article on RR in our newspaper the other week. It was about the auction.

A couple of years ago for my birthday I friend of mine bought me a purse that had Roy Rogers and Trigger on it. She found it at a craft sale, it was hand made and one of only two purses like it. The man who made it said he never expected to sell it. His aunt wanted one and had him make two - just to see if he could sell it! He was very surprised it went to someone so young!

I've had the greatest time using the purse. I've gotten some interesting comments on it. One lady came running up to me and grabbed my purse in surprise and cried, "Is that Roy Rogers?! I used to watch him on TV when I was little! I just loved that show!"

One man commented that he liked my purse and then asked me if I even knew who the cowboy was! I assured him I did.

One of my favorites was a lady who came up and said: "My kids just love that show! I just bought them some on DVD. They just love it when he says 'Hi, Ho Silver!'" A slight case of mistaken identity that time!

I have a friend who occasionally finds Roy and Dale stuff and brings it to me. Lately, after seeing his mother put in a nursing home, found a copy of Carlton Stowers' book Happy Trails in her things and gave it to me. He's found several RR items of interest for me over the past several years.
So, I have an extra book to give to someone who doesn't have that particular one...Happy Trails by Carlton Stowers. Just email me @ merrijoy@comcast.net and I'll get it to you. First come - first serve. Put "RR Book" in subject line, please. The one I'm giving away is not my friend's mother's copy but another extra one I have.

It makes me Smile with A sigh, Every time..

I am enjoying time with my horse, Shiloh, so much.. While I am doing this, I am studying the wonderful world of Natural Horsemanship, through Parelli...

A few months ago, I attended a huge event in Fresno, CA.. It was a Celebration for the students of Parelli Natural Horsemanship. I was with friends, and we were sitting in the seats in a large indoor arena. Pat Parelli was on his horse, speaking to the audience, the benefits of True HORSEMANSHIP - that it isn't about just getting on, and riding.. It isn't about dominating the horse into submission of human wants and needs.. It IS about a Partnership, building trust between the human and the horse, so the horse WANTS to do the tasks the human asks.. Along this line, Pat mentioned, Roy Rogers and Trigger, and the obviously, wonderful relationship and BOND the two of them shared.. Of course, I SMILED and SIGHED with pride, knowing the relationship they did share..

Then the other day, again I was at an event with Parelli activity in San Diego.. It was much smaller, and the speaker at the event, was Dave Ellis, a 5 star Parelli instructor who has studied Natural Horsemanshp for 30 yrs.. There were about 8 riders in the arena he was giving lessons to.. I was standing ringside watching.. In the lesson, he was talking about "gaited" horses and how it CAN be more difficult for them to do certain tasks, but it wasn't impossible.. In the course of examples, he mentioned "Trigger Jr was a Tennesee Walking Horse" and we all remember the wonderful moves and dances Roy was able to do with him..All through trust, love and practice....

Again, my heart siged as I SMILED !!!!

In the episode "Skyjacked" of the Tv Show "Walker, Texas Ranger" Walker and Trivette are referred to as "Roy Rogers and Dale Evans" because of their cowboys hats and boots.

I noticed that in Smokey and the Bandit there was a scene that had Burt doing a Gabby Hayes impression....he was asking Sally Field..." Are you ready Roy??".....to which she replied " I was born ready...."

In the Second Smokey Movie Burt referred to the Trans Am during the final chase / desert showdown as Trigger.....

In the Book "How to Yodel" by Wylie Gustafson Roy is mentioned a number of times as a famous Yodeler. But mentioned specifically on pg. 63 in reference to learning to Yodel faster saying... "[W]e speed things up a bit to get you on your way to being the next Roy Rogers."

Roy is also Number 5 on the list of the authors favorite Yodelers...

I found a video on Youtube [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfM_lGECzrs ] of a young girl sing/yodeling a song called Yodeling Cowgirls - part of the song mentions Roy Rogers and is as follows... "What ever happened to Yodeling cowgirls, Who road across the Silver Screen, The ones who Rode with Roy and all of the boys, who rode the range with Tex and Gene?"
