Here's an odd one: Last night my dad and I went to pick up a pizza, and while we were waiting I flipped open a local newspaper on the counter and skimmed over a book review. It was for a nonfiction book about the 1969 Woodstock Festival, and among other things it mentioned several artists whom the organizers wanted for the show, but didn't end up getting. Supposedly they originally wanted Roy to close the show with "Happy Trails"!
(I had to go and look up the Woodstock Festival online before writing this because I really didn't know what it was. )

I seriously doubt that Roy would have wanted his name associated with this event. "How can we not believe in the greatness of America?...we cannot, must not and will not turn back. We will finish our job. How could we do less? We're Americans."

Posted August 12th, 2009 11:18 AM IP You have to really pay attention now because there is another singer named Roy Rogers. And the public rarely distinguishes between them. Just lump them together. I think the newer one is a contemporary singer, I don't think he is very good. Give me the western songs with the original Roy Rogers any day. Carole

Posted September 21st, 2009 10:50 AM IP I haven't posted for awhile...schedule around here @ BedPan Flats has been off the charts and most of the time, I've not gotten my chores done. To add to that, neither Merrijoy nor I have been feeling good; however, we depend upon God's Grace to sustain and He does!!!
We listen to a local station that broadcasts Southern Gospel 24/7 and we really enjoy it.
This mornings, Greg Hutchins, well-known dj, hummed a few bars of "Back in the Saddle Again" and I got to thinking, why Gene Autry? How about Roy?
So I found his e-addy and emailed him. Here's the resulting response:
"...Ha! Actually, I have a copy of "Happy Trails," and may just start using
it as a daily sign-off song!

However.........today, you've been humming a few bars of Gene Autry's

Thanks again for great programming!!

Here's the update from Gregg Hutchins on using "Happy Trails;
Dave, I think I'm going to use it everyday as my "sign off" song. That
would be about 9:55am central time, Monday thru Friday.

One favor to ask.
Would you let me know the date that you'd consider using "Happy Trails"
as your sign-off song?
I'd like to let a bunch of my friends know.
Many thanks.

I hope everyone will try to find a station near each of you that carries his program. Just Google Gregg Hutchins for one near you. "How can we not believe in the greatness of America?...we cannot, must not and will not turn back. We will finish our job. How could we do less? We're Americans."

Well, today is the day Gregg is going to start playing Happy Trails as his closing song. As I mentioned before, Google the name Gregg Hutchins to find a station near you that plays his Southern Gospel program. Remember - 955 am Central Time. Has anyone listened to this program and heard Roy and Dale's rendition of Happy Trails? If you haven't, you're missing a really neat closing part to a great bit of programming. Earlier postings give you the link. "How can we not believe in the greatness of America?...we cannot, must not and will not turn back. We will finish our job. How could we do less? We're Americans."

Posted October 24th, 2009 08:24 AM IP Interesting enough there is a large picture of Roy and Dale at the San Antonio Airport in Texas. We where walking past this huge glass case of pictures of famous people when one of my brothers said something about Roy's picture. I stopped really quick and sure enough there it was! A lovely picture and Roy and Dale stepping off a plane waving at everyone. It was really fun to see. I look for it every time we're there.
We also had fun at our local museum. Their was a huge room on WWII. Their was a little room that talked about the theaters and they ran a few clips from some popular movies during the time, and there was a couple of Roy. I don't remember exactly what films they where from...

Posted February 20th, 2010 01:43 PM IP One of our local news stations does an "Oklahoma, is this a great State or What?" segment weekly. They did a piece on homes working with challenged children and adults. They stated that the Dale Evans Center in Oklahoma was one of first progressive thinking centers for its time and still is. They mentioned how Dale Evans and Roy Rogers made a difference in so many lives with their love and openness with Robin. Nice piece.. They also stated how that beginning has made a difference stretching far into the future. YEAH! Trigs Mom

Posted March 24th, 2010 01:31 PM IP Greetings All...
I looked through the thread topics of both categories and finally decided to choose this one to share the following notes. As some of you may know, I'm a ham radio operator with almost 50 years of continuously being licensed. On another forum with its roots in ham radio, I'd shared the first part of the email. The second part is what Maynard Wright responded to me and I secured his permission to share it with the MB. I hope you like it. Actually, it's just another great example of the wide spread influence of Roy and Dale.
BTW, don't forget - next moth is Roy stamp month!!!!!!
My original email:

Maynard's response:
Hi, Dave,
That is interesting. We spent quite a few years at a church whose minister of music was Tom Fox, Dale's son by her first marriage. I played trumpet, mandolin, and English handbells under Tom's direction. Our oldest daughter met her husband in the handbell choir and we had to have, of course, a
handbell wedding. Roy and Dale visited our church infrequently, but Dale would sing with us on occasion. I played trumpet at the wedding of one of Roy and Dale's granddaughters.
While I was visiting with Tom Fox in Southern California, Dale once baked a birthday cake decorated with "Happy Birthday Maynard and Roy," as we shared the birthday November 5th. It was fun shooting at clays with Roy, but I could never possibly have outscored him. We have a few Roy and Dale items, but we can't class ourselves as collectors.
Happy Trails,
Maynard W6PAP "How can we not believe in the greatness of America?...we cannot, must not and will not turn back. We will finish our job. How could we do less? We're Americans."

Posted March 31st, 2010 10:44 PM IP TWISTER: I was only half watching TV twice (generally am totally aware of what is on) and vaguely saw the Hotel ads showing RR and Gabby in B/W for commercials for LaQuinta Hotels (not their voices). I am not familiar with LaQuinta but know they are in some of States in USA/just never stayed in this type Hotel. It was a shock to suddenly see old black/white short glimpses of RR and Gabby in the commercials! Many RR/Gabby Fans will now stay at least once in this Hotel Chain due to commercials.

He was/is in the Stars Hall of Fame wax museum in Orlando, Florida (&) Movieland Wax Museum, Buena Park, California. He's also in 3D in the book 3D Hollywood, published by Simon & Schuster in 1992. The scene is from the 1950 Shriners convention at the Los Angeles Coliseum. Roy also takes up the whole back cover of the book!
