Have you guys here ever been watching a video or movie (other than RR movies or videos about him) and heard RR mentioned? I've seen a couple times in videos. The first one was right after I became a RR fan, and it was in one of Bill Gaither's Homecoming videos, and Mr. Gaither and Mark Lowry, a comedian who was with them at the time were talking about how they would make a museum out of the Gaither's house after Mr. Gaither died and how people could have their pictures taken with Mr. Gaither, and Mr. Gaither was like How can that be? I'll be dead are you going to mount me? . And Mr. Lowry replied something like Yep. Roy Rogers did it with Trigger!

Then another one that CowgirlFan saw on a Horsemanship DVD that she was watching about trained rears, and the instructor said that whenever Trigger and RR reared, it wasn't a wild rear but a trained rear.

Oh, and one more, perhaps my favourate of them all. In a National Geographic Home Video, called Lost Mustangs of America, they show a couple clips of RR and Trigger when they were talking about the horse in history. I was cheering when I saw that part! Later, the friend who lent it to my family said that when she thought of it she thought of me.

Anyways, I just wanted to know if you guys had ever heard RR mentioned in a video or movie.

A few weeks ago, on Gilmore Girls, Lorelai and Rory were at the grandparents for friday night dinner. Emily was serving mock-tails instead of their usual cocktails, and asked Rory if she would like a Shirley Temple or a Roy Rogers. Rory opted for a Roy Rogers.

Thanks guys for sharing! I rememebred a few more that I found. In a cross word that was in our local newspaper a while ago they mentioned RR, the question was "Roy's Cowboy Partner___" It was a fill in the blank one. Then even before that, in the same newspaper they had a little thing on the RR DE Museum! In a couple of horse magzines, they started an article out with "Imagine Roy Rogers without Trigger. Impossible. Imagine Roy Rogers with out Dale Evans. More Impossible" Most of the time whenever I find something that mentions them I just have to have it!

On a home video of Josh Turner(a country music artist), he was talking about having one of his songs played in the background of a movie and said "Watch out Roy Rogers!" (Meaning no disrespect of course)
Trigger was included in Animal Planet's Top 50 Television and Movie Animals.
Also, on a horse show, they were interviewing a collector of model horses and showed her orginal Roy and Trigger figurines.
I'm always excited when I find any mention of RR anywhere! This is a great topic! I bet I'll be back here with more.

I know someone here awhile ago mentioned a Mary Kate and Ashley movie that had RR mentioned in it. I'd kind of like to see it. A while ago my Mom bought me a whole pile of old magazines called Evergreen. I think it is a British magazine from the 80's. Anyways, in every issue there is a section talking about old movie stars...and I was fortunate enough to get one that talked about movie horses, and it had a great picture of RR and Trigger in it.

The MK&A movie you're talking about is To Grandmother's House We Go. It has a lot of great RR clips andd songs. The leading man's apartment is covered with pictures of RR and DE.

The Mary Kate and Ashley movie was To Grandmothers House we Go. There was a man in it who was obsessed with RR. He was always singing a RR song..... and in the end preformed a RR stlye rescue!

In the end Mary Kate and Ashley should have become HUGE RR fans! That is a true happy ending!

I thought of another place.
In Toby Keith's(another country music artist) first hit "Should've Been A Cowboy" the chorus goes like this:

"Should've been a cowboy
Should've learned to rope and ride.
I'd be wearin' my six-shooter
Ridin' my pony on a cattle drive.
Stealin' young girls hearts
Just like Gene and Roy,
Singing those campfire songs.
Oh, I should've been a cowboy!"

My favorite of his songs!

I saw that article! I read it over and over just for the first and last paragraphs!!

Ooh, boy, me and my short-term memory. (Somebody on here said I had a photographic one—well, as much as I’d like that to be true, my memory is only good when I’m calm and in my right frame of mind. Due to the limited time I have for posting, I am never calm when I’m on here….) I completely forgot somewhere where I’d seen Roy Rogers. Recently, my parents got a series of interviews done by Merv Griffin, because they wanted to see an interview with an actor. I knew they’d gotten the series, and I had a weird hunch…so I went and looked at the case. Sure enough! He’d done a special 10 minute interview with Roy Rogers. Needless to say, I watched it! It was quite good. I didn’t really learn anything new about Roy in it, but I was impressed as always by what a humble, real, un-stagey person he was. You know how some movie actors are always talking about “This scene I did” or “This was a great movie I did” etc? Well, Roy NEVER says anything like that! He never talks about himself at all, really. The interviewer asked him a couple of questions about his movies, and instead of talking about himself in the scenes, Roy would say, “Oh, yeah, Dale was great there”, or “Oh, the crew was so good at that time”, etc. You get the idea. Just so nice and gentle and real—not wanting to say bad things about other people…but not being afraid to stand up for what’s right either. Sometimes, my parents go around grumbling about how movie actors are always spoiled, proud, and vain. I just smile to myself when they do that and think, “I know one movie actor—two, in fact, Roy and Dale—who didn’t get spoiled…”

May God keep you smilin' down a million happy trails!

Was it the Magazine article or the Newspaper article?
One time I found a really nice picture of RR and Trigger, adviertising for a Arthitits pill or something like that.

The magazine article. It was an article in Horse Illustrated about safe online horse dating sites. I never read the article itself--just the first and last paragraphs because I like what they say about Roy, Dale, Trigger and BM.

The May/June 2003 issue of Shoot Magazine had Roy and Trigger on the FRONT cover.

After all these years, he still can make the front covers of magazines.

I remember several yearsago my husband showed me a copy of a magazine he got once a month (think that often) name of mag was....something Rifleman; magazine is a big on NRA (we went to NRA Center, Raton, New Mexico on some trips after leaving Taos, NM); anyway, there was an ad for NRA by RR. Another time, I found an ad in some mag where RR/DE were advertising insurance.

Brenda;

That mag. that you saw was probably the AMERICAN RIFLEMAN , which is the official magazine of THE NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION, (NRA)

Roy was a life member of the NRA, and from time to time they do have something in their mags. about Roy.

I remembered another place where I saw RR mentioned today before Church started- on the front of a movie called "The Homecoming", there was a quote, and it said that this movie was a great one (not the exact words) and the quote was from RR and DE! I nearly flipped with joy when I saw that.

Check out the March 18, 2007 issue of Christian Standard. In Paul William's article on page 16 he talks about saying when he was young "I'm getting a Roy Rogers ranch set for Christmas". It is a great article.

I saw RR in a newspaper last year. It was small, but it had a picture of him. It was a quiz: what was his real name? Leonard Franklin Slye. They spelled his last name wrong in the answers though!
Thank Heavens for Dale Evans

That's great! I'll have to break my adversion to firearms and check the issue out. I agree with what you say about RR...he'll probably be THE most remembered actor ever--and just think! He made such a famous career and was a wonderful and GOOD person, too!!

(Hope it's okay I'm double posting) I remembered another one today when a site I was on mentioned Road to Bali. Anyways, in this movie, Bob Hope is going underwater, and he says "Don't forget my Roy Rogers water pistol!"

This topic is supposed to be only for times when we've heard Roy's name mentioned in places other than his movies--but i have a song that always reminds me of Roy, even though his name was never mentioned in it. Some of you have heard it, but I'm going to post the words just because I love them.

Cowboy Logic
There's a great American hero, that we all look up to,
When the times are hard, and chips are down, he knows just what to do.

Now a cowboy's got a set of rules that he lives by day to day.

If you ask for his advice he'll more than likely say:

If it's a fence, mend it. If it's a dollar bill, spend it,

Before it burns a hole down in them jeans.

If it's a load, truck it. If it's a punch, duck it,

If she's a lady, treat her like a queen.

That's cowboy logic. Every cowboy's got it, It's in the way he lives his life and the songs he sings

That's cowboy logic. Every cowboy's got it, He's got a simple solution to just about anything.

If it's a job, do it. Put your back into it,

'Cause a little bit of dirt's gonna wash off in the rain.

If it's a horse, ride it. If it hurts, hide it.

Dust yourself off an' get back on again.

That's cowboy logic. Every cowboy's got it, It's in the way he lives his life and the songs he sings

That's cowboy logic. Every cowboy's got it, He's got a simple solution to just about anything.

He's got a simple solution to just about anything.

There. I love that song...listen to it over and over and over. To me, the matter-of-fact way just reminds me of Roy--especially the part about ladies. I don't know if that song was written with Roy in mind, but I sure wouldn't be surprised if it was!

That's a cool song! I rememberd a few more: In an old horse magazine, they had a small picture of Trigger and Glen Randall. I had to cut it out! There was a time in the same magazine that they did a review for the book "Cowboy and the Senorita". I kept that too.

There are two song I know of:

1. "Hoppy, Gene and Roy" are mentioned as heroes in Mason Williams' "Cowboy Buckaroo", available here:
http://www.amazon.com/Music-1968-19...75631091&sr=1-3

2. Roy Rogers is introduced as part of the band, "on Trigger" (as a joke) in "The Intro and the Outro" by The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, avvailable here:

Those sound goo Kenbrock! Thank you for sharing them!

I know of a couple more, but they may not count because I wrote the story that way. In one of the movies that my sister and I made, my character (Ricky, a female PI) was a humngous RR fan. We had planned the movie to actually be the first show in the series, but that never turned out. In one that we started earlier, another TV show, I played "Krys", and we used my room for a set, with all the RR pictures too. That movie never turned out. Oh well. Whenever I have to write a script, I always try to make my character be a RR fan, that way I won't have to act too hard-I'll just do what I always do! (If that makes sense).
