Yay! I really ought to watch another RR soon; it's been a while. Hmm...wonder what one I shall watch.

I missed a RR one that I had not seen before... only caught the last 15 minutes. ): Can anyone tell me what the name of the movie was. RR, Frog and another leading lady saved the Judge from being accused of stealing the payroll. RR was a ranger and there were a bunch of kids helping. In the end RR married the leading lady and she said no to the sheriff (or some officer of the law).

I just got Roan's version of Apache Rose and our family watched it last night. I had never seen it before and I thoroughly enjoyed it! But then, I've never seen a RR movie yet that I didn't enjoy!

Now I need to watch another one tonight to unwind from a stressful day at college and work! Nothing like a dose of RR medicine to take care of those old everyday stresses! Which one shall it be tonight.....? hmmm. Too many to choose from!!!

I believe that this is Idaho.
RR is a state police officer and the "sheriff" is his boss. It's a little confusing because his boss calls him a ranger at the end but the sing over the door of their office says "State Police".

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

It's been mentioned before but bears a repeat. Watch in the $5.00 bin at Wal-Mart. They often have great RR movies as well as other cowboy stars. too.
Also, movie buyers should watch the dvd stands at their local convenience stores. I have found some great western collections for $3.99, $4.99 and $5.99 at those places. A recent buy of mine was a dvd containing 48 episodes of Rin-Tin-Tin from the early '30s. Price = 3.99. With cable tv programming not fit - for the most part - to watch, dvds are the way to go for good movies. There are some great values available.

Twister:
Idaho was filmed in 1943. The production company was Republic Pictures. Joseph Kane was the director.

Twister,

Idaho is available uncut (70 min.) on DVD from Alpha Video (www.oldies.com) and from VCI Entertainment (www.vcientertainment.com). The Alpha Video version is also available through other web sites such as amazon.com and dvduniverse.com.

I have 65 movies, but am still missing the one where
Dale sings SHOW BOAT. Can u tell me title?

Also, I'm looking for uncut version of ALONG THE NAVAJO TRAIL...
the Happy Trails Theatre version is missing my favorite scene (which
is in their wrap arounds, so go figure...) where Roy and Dale are
under a tarp and it's pouring down rain. I just can't figure how
the Museum put out such a badly cut version. The charisma between
Roy and Dale in that 1945 scene was so fantastic. I feel frantic not
having it!

pigbrain,

There are two used copies of an uncut VHS version of Along the Navajo Trail available on ebay. They are both advertised as in good condition. This version is from a box set issued by Republic shortly after Roy died. I have a copy and it is good quality.

Thanks Jim. I'm down the ebay road. Also, I figur'd out I should find the show boat
song/movie in the book that goes with "It Was Always about the Music."

I think the one with "Show Boat" would be The Yellow Rose of Texas.

Oh wow - I'm a bit envious! We have several (maybe 20 or so) RR movies, but many of them are cut. I really see a big difference in the uncut ones - they make more sense. And - besides - who wouldn't want to see more minutes of Roy and Dale? How did you get such a good deal? Was it a set that you bought, or were they all separate but just really cheap?

All you folks with such a big collection of RR movies make our little collection seem so small. ...I need to find a good source of low-prices un-cut RR movies! Wish I could afford to buy them all!

It was a boxed set of 20 films. They had a bunch of movies on DVD forsale for $3 each but all of the boxed sets were $6. They had hundreds. If you get a chance to check out a Big Lots. Take the time to go through all the movies. They also have many James Bond Films, and JOhn Wayne films in boxed sets. Steve

How does one tell uncut versions? Okay, I get to look for the Republic VHS set distributed by Artisan around 1999. I'll go to B-Western Collectables web site. Sometimes I can tell by the run time, but any other gauge?

I am awestruck by the difference between Happy Trails Theatre DVD of ALONG THE NAVAJO TRAIL and the Republic version VHS. How sad that RR could not get his own movies. The uncut version has six songs that are not in the cut version, plus a short dramatic scene between Dale and her "father" which really ties meaning into why he is fighting to save his ranch. Estalita does a WONDERFUL song and dance number; Roy and Dale each have an important song; the Sons of the Pioneers do "Water, Cool Water" (one of my favorites in "It Was Always About the Music" CD.) The most important was when Roy and Dale are caught in the rain and sing. When I saw that scene and there wasn't the high-chemistry-between-them song forthcoming...that's the only way I knew the DVD was edited. I wouldn't have known so much had been cut out.

So, I understand sometimes on eBay the seller will say "uncut," but is there any other way to recognize edited versions? I'd really like to see a good version of ROUGH RIDERS' ROUNDUP.

So should we be trying to buy the 16 mm films they sell on eBay? I have never bid on any, so no idea of what they may go for...but I would think if Rough Riders Round-up, for example, came up...I should grab it for posterity. Seems someone, somewhere could do something with it, right? Or is it a lot more complicated than this...?

pigbrain,

As far as I am aware there are not commercially available uncut copies of Yellow Rose of Texas available. However, an uncut version was televised on American Movie Classics (AMC) back in the early 1990's. At that time AMC run films without commercials.

As far as eBay is concerned, that may be the only viable source for obtaining uncut RR films. You take a chance on the condition, but it may be worth the gamble sometime. The Trucolor version of Springtime in the Sierras that came from eBay and is being marketed by Comet Video and B-Western Collectibles turned out to be a good buy. The print isn't perfect by any means, but it is a decent print and far exceeds the previous Trucolor version available, which had some missing segments and the quality was only fair at best. I have been looking specifically for uncut versions of Man from Oklahoma, Sunset in El Dorado, and Trucolor versions of Apache Rose and On the Old Spanish Trail.

Does anyone have any contact with the gentleman that wrote the "It was always the Music" book? He had to find an uncut copy of Yellow Rose of Texas somewhere...He said that there where only three films he couldn't find uncut. Man from Oklahoma, Sunset in El Dorado, and Song of Nevada.

LeesaEvans,

A correction to my previous post. There is an uncut version of Yellow Rose of Texas available from B-Western Collectables.
