Posted February 9th, 2007 03:19 PM IP There used to be a topic on this subejct--guess it got deleted. Anyway, here's another one!
My favorite funny songs—oh, that is HARD!! There are so many I like! Every song that Pat sings is funny—one of the scenes I’m thinking of especially is where he sings (or tries to sing!) “I’m Beginning To Care” in Texas Legionairres. That scene is so funny! I also love it when he sings “Killer Diller” from Eyes of Texas, and “Hot Lead” from Bells of San Angelo.
Apart from Pat singing, other funny songs are “I Love The West” from Bells of San Angelo—I’ve watched that movie over and over and I still crack up every time it comes to that scene! The look on Dale’s face when she’s trying to smile but is as mad as a hornet—and the terribly bored look on Roy’s face!!! That is SO funny! I have to admit though, I think Roy got what he had coming in that scene!
Another very funny Roy-Dale song is “Trigger Hasn’t Got a Pretty Figure” from Lights of Old Santa Fe. (By the way, I have the words to that song if anyone wants them.)
This song isn’t that terribly funny—actually, the words are pretty crazy—but the scene accompanying it is so funny that I think “They Went That-a-Way” from San Fernando Valley is definitely one of my favorite funny songs.
May God keep you smilin' down a million happy trails!

Posted February 11th, 2007 12:53 PM IP The song THEY WENT THAT-A-WAY does have funny lyrics! Just read the lyrics! Here they are for anybody interested.
(Roy) Good evenin' to you stranger,
I'm Sherif Eli Brown.
I'm lookin' for the varmints,
That held us up in town,
They robbed the bank this mornig,
And carried off the dough.
So pardner could you tell me,
Wich way did they go,
(Ed)
Why Shure!
They went that-a-way.
They went that-a-way
I seen um' with the money,
And they went that-a-way
(Roy)
I'll just surround those critters,
And with my forty-five,
As shure as shootin' stranger,
I'll fetch um' dead or alive,
I'm headen' up the mountain,
To spot um' down below,
But in the meantime mister
Wich way did they go.
(Ed)
They went that-a-way
They went that-a-way
I hope that you can fetch um',
And they went that-a-way
(Roy)
I'll hang um' in the courtyard,
The law will have it's way,
Then I'll be reelected,
On next eletion day,
(Ed)
You bet
(Roy)
So if there is a shortcut,
Please tell me if you know,
How many of em' was there,
Wich way did they go,
(Both)
They went that-a-way
They went that-a-way
Rode off in all directions,
And they went that-a-way

You will listen to me. Listen! The Bretheren will still be looking to us, the Black Pearl, to lead. And what will they see? Frightened bilge rats aboard a derelict ship? No! No, they will see free men and freedom! And what the enemy will see is the flash of our cannons! They will hear the ring of our swords and they will know what we can do. A friend of mine says that Dale's dancing tantilizing circles around Roy while she's singing it, and considering what the song sounds like I can just picture it, and it'd be BAD!!!! Posted February 23rd, 2007 09:45 AM IP I just saw the uncut copy of ROMANCE ON THE RANGE, and I've come across one of my favorite funny songs so far! What is so bad is that they cut it out (angry face)! Anyway, they sing this song, called OH WONDERFUL WORLD just after Pat comes galloping in asking if the mailman had come yet, and he was informed that he'd been and gone, but there'd been no mail for him. So then he sings this as he's unsaddling his horse, and then as they're eating lunch. When Gabby sings the last verse in the song he has to duck, 'cause Pat throws a bisquit at him! It's a HILARIOUS scene, and the words to the songs as just as much a scream. I wanted them bad, so here they are.
(Pat---disgustedly unsaddling his horse)
Oh, I'm sure a lonesome critter,
My Sally didn't write,
Oh, wonderful world.
I think I'll up and quit her,
And just go and fly a kite,
Oh, wonderful world.
She'll never find another,
Who'll ever take my place,
I've been just like a mother,
That time cannot erase.
The things I've sacrificed for her,
It's just a plumb disgrace.
(Roy and Pioneers---just as Pat walks in the door)
Oh, wonderful world.
(Gabby---with his nose all wrinkled up in distain)
I've never heard such tommy-rotten,
All my goldurned life,
(Roy and Pioneers)
Oh wonderful world.
(Gabby---swinging the spatulla for emphasis)
No wonder things have fallen apart,
Now wonder we're all poor!
(Roy and Pioneers)
Oh, wonderful world.
(Pat---glaring contemtuously at Gabby)
Aw, you're just gettin' jelous,
'Cause you are old and gray.
And now you're tryin' to tell us,
You won't go on this way.
And just because, you old cyoose,
You've gone and had your day,
(Roy and Pioneers)
Oh, wonderful world.
(Roy---he's got his head tipped to the
side and that VERY teasing look in his eye!)
The love bug sure has got old Pat,
It's such an awful shame,
(Roy and Pioneers)
Oh, wonderful world.
(Bob---rubbing his chin thoughtfully)
I wonder if she's big and fat,
(Hugh---with a teasing grin)
I wonder if she's lame.
(Roy and Pioneers)
Oh, wondeful world!
(Roy---shaking his head sypatheticly)
We know you'll be so happy,
The day you up and wed,
For soon you'll be the pappy,
Of little Eether Jed.
(Gabby---with a snort)
Yeah, you can round up Dolly,
Or babby-babby, huh,(ducks bisquit)
(Roy and Pioneers)
Oh, wonderful world.
Oh wonderful world!
Isn't that just a scream? Pat's looking so dejected durring the song, and the others are teasing him so bad!!!! It is SO funny!!! All of our family just about died laughing watching it! And the way they're teasing poor Pat, it's so FUNNY!!!!!!!! Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright that God may love thee. Speak the truth even if it leads you to your death. Safeguard the helpless. That is your oath. (strikes him across the face) That is how you shall remember it. Rise a knight!

Posted March 3rd, 2007 12:32 PM IP Oh, Trigger hasn’t got a pretty figure,
But he isn’t half as ugly as a girl can be,
And for your information, he’s real transportation,
How’s about a ride with me?
Trigger hasn’t got a pretty figure,
But his easy ridin’ saddle’s like a rocking chair,
And if you’re tired of walking, you’d better do some talking,
We won’t charge you any fare.
Tramp, tramp, down the dusty trail,
Till you get the gout,
Tramp, tramp, tramp over hill and dale,
Soon you’ll tucker out.
Oh, Trigger hasn’t got a pretty figure,
But he’s nice and kind and gentle as a horse can be,
He can carry a double, it isn’t any trouble,
And we’re needing company.
So, how’s about a ride for free?
May God keep you smilin' down a million happy trails!

Posted March 3rd, 2007 12:33 PM IP T for Texas
I’m just a prairie canary,
With a heart that’s warm as toast,
But somehow I don’t want to marry,
Guess I love the range the most.
T for Texas, that’s the place for me.
Plains a-rollin’, far as the eye can see.
Now the maker of the trees will paint my face,
And the wind will comb my hair,
And my little pony takes me anyplace,
So I haven’t a single care!
T for Texas, that’s the place for me.
Plains a-rollin’, far as the eye can see.
Now, you meet a man and he holds your hand,
Says he’ll love you all your life.
Yes, he means it then, but he forgets it when
That preacher makes you man and wife!
T for Texas, that’s the place for me.
Plains a-rollin’, far as the eye can see.
If you want to know all about my life,
I’m descended from Davy Crockett,
And I cut my teeth on a bowie knife
With a .45 in my pocket!
T for Texas, that’s the place for me.
Plains a-rollin’, far as the eye can see.
Now I’m up at dawn, got my Stetson on,
And I’m a-ridin’ the range all day.
And if I droop, I eat cactus soup,
Then I’m up and I’m on my way!
T for Texas, that’s the place for me.
Plains a-rollin’, far as the eye can see.
Now look here friend, I’m a Texas Hen,
And when we make a date,
To dance and sup you’d better not show up
A dollar short and an hour late!
T for Texas, that’s the place for me.
Plains a-rollin’, far as the eye can see.
One day I went out to Californy,
To get myself a break,
But they told me out there my talk was corny,
And that I just couldn’t take!
T for Texas, that’s the place for me.
Plains a-rollin’, far as the eye can see.
T-E-X-A-S
T for Texas, that’s the place for me!
May God keep you smilin' down a million happy trails!

Posted March 15th, 2007 05:26 PM IP Has anybody on here watched Sunset in El Dorado? I was listening to the songs from that one the other day, and trying to figure out the plot from the dialogue. From the way things go in “The Belle of the El Dorado” it sounded to me like Roy had met Dale previously—and probably NOT favorably, from the sound of things, but he didn’t know who she was. Also, from the line “A man just got the best of her” I think they probably had a run-in while he was out on that trail he talks about.
Then, I tried to figure out what’s going on in “The Lady Who Wouldn’t Say Yes”—I came up with the fact that Roy obviously has asked Dale to do something—sounded like it could be on a romantic line—earlier in the film, and Dale refused. Also, Roy was clearly put in jail for something, but he managed to catch the bad guy—that’s from the lines that take place in the song. The real bad guy also must be someone Dale knows, because when she warns him about the BG seeing him, Roy goes, “He just took over my cell in the county jail. Mad?”
Dale’s response is to go “Mmmmm,” which I haven’t decoded yet! From the sound of the rest of the song, my guess is that it took place at the end. Is any of this correct? And, also, how is the movie?
May God keep you smilin' down a million happy trails!
