Posted October 17th, 2008 12:24 PM IP I've taken a few days to compose myself before I write a brief review of the OCW Rittman show.
First off the crowd participation was like a rollercoaster ride. Apparent fan favorites and familiar bad guys received the most reactions. There were a lot of new guys peppered into the show which the fans were unsure of who to cheer and who to boo.
The crowd size was particularly on the smaller size at about 125-130 total. I heard from more than a few people that the final games of the youth football organizations in the area were going on which sucks for these wrestlers as they went out there and still busted their @sses for the fans. Much like them, I too, went home satisfied.
Now with my interpretations of the show...
Virus vs Max Fahrenheit (Best of Series to unify the TV and Cruiserweight titles) - this was an overall good match with back and forth action. Max came to the ring with Mini Max which was a fresh addition, but Max didn't want his help or distraction and sent him back to the lockerroom. A few minutes later, Mini Virus came out distracting Max and giving Virus a 1-0 lead in the series. (8 out of 10)
Carlton Kaz vs Dave Crist - This was an entertaining "technical" match that some fans got into, while some did not. They did their best to get the crowd into the match. This match ended with a botched "Canadian Destroyer" off the top rope but most of the crowd didn't notice. (8 out of 10)
Benny Benzino & joe joe Little vs JT Hogg and Raptor - This is a mismatch of styles, abilities, as well as experiences. These guys have such strong singles personas and work much better in one on one action than in this particular tag team situation. Also, some of the moves didn't look crisp. Like they weren't sure or comfortable. (6.5 out of 10)
Ashley Lane vs Lorelei Lee - I was very disappointed that Stephie was injured, yet she still reffed the match. You could clearly tell something was not right with her face as it was swollen. This was otherwise a classic "good girl" vs "good girl" match that was a nice break from the guys action. Two (three with Steph reffing) attactive ladies that can actually wrestle. SOMEBODY CALL VINCE!!!!! (7.5 out of 10)
Intermission - Intermission was nice as the fans got to see the fan favorites. The established guys like Matt Mason, Robby Starr, Tank, Max, and joe joe are always approachable and interact with the crowd well. Some of the others, while nice and approachable, seem almost surprised that people are wanting their autographs and maybe don't know what to say to the fans. Maybe inexperience, maybe not good with talking to people, but hopefully they get better.
Dusty Dillinger vs Mike Dodge - I heard this was a teacher vs student match. Overall it was an entertaining match with Dusty being the overbearing bad guy and Mike Dodge being the up and coming new age star. Two different styles that meshed well except for a few moves that were missed. Great new additions to the roster with a lot of potential to grow. (7.5 out of 10)
Kaden Assad vs Joey Vengeance - These two guys have star potential written all over them. They are obviously young and newer to wrestling, but they went out and put their best foot forward. I think the match was a little long overall. Kaden worked the match well but came off a little weak as Joey kept getting up. May be a little inexperience here but it was a nice match especially for Joey's first. (7 out of 10)
Sherman Tank vs Vance Desmond - Vance comes out looking ripped and jacked. Then Tank who is attacked in the entranceway with some object that Vance grabbed. Later on it was revealed as a hammer. Not sure if it was a legit hammer or not, but it looked like he killed Tank's ribs. This was a slow paced match with Vance on the offensive most of the match beating on Tank's ribs. Good story in this one, but light on the action. (7.5 out of 10)
The Hi-Def Supernovas vs The Empire - I guess the A-List is dead as Mason and Starr have renamed themselves. This was a classic back and forth match that had technical wrestling, high flying, close falls and cheating all rolled into one. Though it seemed kinda rushed, these guys had a nice pace going and pulled out all of the stops which is what everybody wants in a Main Event! Crowd was definitely behind the Supernovas and this loss was another big one for the Empire. (9 out of 10)
The show was great. It ended at around 10PM which is nice. I hate when a show is 3-4 hours long, these foldup chairs are not that comfortable.
I'm peeking around every corner. I am looking under each chair. I am the mole, I am the OCW Informer!!!
