Posted May 23rd, 2009 05:04 PM IP Show was rad. The Rock is nice but has its cons (like any venue). Those being 1)I don't think its open for booking to other than the youth of the Hope congregation, etc. And 2) it being so big it must be a bitch to pay rent/utilities on. -which I assume all door $$$ goes to that? . . .because there was almost 100 kids @ this show and the bands didn't see a cent. Or at least we didn't, which is fine. We don't need it but I know other local up and coming bands need all they can get to get their CD's, merch, gas, etc. And if ALL shows are like that, as in door $$$ to the church/venue, then that is not cool.

Posted May 25th, 2009 03:32 AM IP well that specific church has notorious spending habits, unreasonably so
but I'm probably biased, so don't listen to me there was a little boy, stood on a burning log
rubbing his hands with glee
he said: "oh mother england, did you light my smile? or did you light this fire underneath?"
someday I'll be a minstrel in the gallery, I'll paint you a picture of the queen
and if sometimes I may sing to a cynical degree
it's just the nonsense that it seems

No, elaborate. You're biased for a reason. Is this a bad place to schedule shows at? Punk ain't no religous cult, punk means thinking for yourself! - Jello Biafra

Posted June 11th, 2009 03:41 PM IP oh I have no idea about shows, I've never attended one (and until this thread I never even knew they hosted them).
I'm merely commenting on the church itself. my mom and stepdad attend this place and, in my opinion, it's the closest (and getting closer) grand forks has to one of those super-churches you see on tv. both the rate at which they're growing, and the energy with which they 'worship', are pretty alarming to me.
but like I said, I'm biased. I hate most organized religion. a lot of people would tell you great things about the place. there was a little boy, stood on a burning log
rubbing his hands with glee
he said: "oh mother england, did you light my smile? or did you light this fire underneath?"

Very true about the "Super-Church" they're the only church in town that has a crazy sound system... including a 20,000 dollar sound board.... The hardest thing isn't finding who we want to be, its being content with who we are.

yeah it's fucking sick. because they don't need it.
they have a room for gathering/service etc, roughly equivalent to three or four taco bells as far as square footage. the room is not really that large, on a church scale. unless they've acquired an 80-piece orchestra since the last time I was there, they definitely don't need that board. the most they have mic'd during a service is a guitarist, a handful of vocalists, maybe one or two more odd string instruments, and maybe drums of some kind. they could use a low-end mackie for what they actually need, not a fucking trident (I don't know what brand/model it is, I'm just using equivalents).
like james said, all for god, right? I'm sure, if there is a god as they imagine, he would prefer more expensive methods of audio manipulation. I mean, what better representation of your dedication to the faith, right? next thing you know, all the vocalists will be using c 414s.
fuck. maybe I should've posted this in the "makes me want to punch people". except I don't have enough fists for the congregation (wish I did). fuck your church, no matter where you go. there was a little boy, stood on a burning log
rubbing his hands with glee

Posted June 11th, 2009 09:39 PM IP yea they have a Yamaha M7CL 48 channel. Same as what HB has for regional acts... its crazy. the smaller guy the LS9 would have worked perfect in there. I will give them, they did buy it before the LS9 was available...
Corey, the guy who runs it, uses it mostly for the recalability and the lock down. so that anyone can walk up and be able to turn on something basic. Its all digital so its nice in that sense. Monitor wise it makes it nice with that many outputs...
But that church is a little bit crazy for the size. More power to them if they can get people to pay for it..... The hardest thing isn't finding who we want to be, its being content with who we are.
