Right...one might even say that this is really not even "knowing" as much as it is "experiencing", since it is so far from what we normally mean by "know".

Unless I'm mistaken, ev is refering to the old Buddhist proverb:

Nirvana is Samsara fully realized; Samsara is Nirvana rightly understood.

In other words, Nirvana is not some transcendent "place" like common notions of Heaven. There's nowhere to "escape to". Unless I'm mistaken, this is from the Ch'an (or Zen) tradition and could possibly be an example of Daoist influence on Ch'an Buddhism. Equating two seemingly opposed polarities (like essence and manifestation), seems very much in line with the opening lines of the Daodejing.

I agree with ML, that's a very good point and one that is easily overlooked!

Perhaps he meant that.

Nirvana is Samsara

and

Nirvana is Samsara fully realized

is not the same though, and may be asking a bit much of those of our members who are not as experienced with Buddhist lingo yet to be able to fill in the gaps....

Thanks to you for clearing it up!

Thanks, Taeguk and Anna. Though I've read many of the Sutras, I'm one who is not up on the subtleties of Buddhist vocabulary.
