Posted February 20th, 2008 09:52 IP Has anybody read anything by Prentice Mulford, perhaps?
It was a great read for me, unfortunately I can't find the book anymore and can't remember the title. But it's basically about positive thinking, and how our thoughts affect our life in either a positive or negative way.
Thoughts are described as poweerful streams of energy that attract similar energies.
If we expect failure, that's what we'll get.
If we think we will succeed, we invite supporting energies to connect with us.
I have read a little in the MLL library and read in the TTC and Dhammapada a bit.
Buddhas first sentence in the Dhammapada says something that supports this idea.
(Hold on)
I was wondering what you think about this positive energy we can let flow (through us)?
Here:
"What we are is the result of what we have thought,
is built by our thoughts, is made up of our thoughts.
If one speaks or acts with an impure thought,
suffering follows one,
like the wheel of the cart follows the foot of the ox.
What we are is the result of what we have thought,
is built by our thoughts, is made up of our thoughts.
If one speaks or acts with a pure thought,
happiness follows one,
like a shadow that never leaves." Buddha.
(Maybe this should be moved to Buddhism? ...)

Rebecca, I don't know much about Buddhism but I do believe that our thoughts make a huge difference to what happens to us.
I do get a bit stuck when I think about children with incurable diseases. It's very hard to reconcile that with negative thinking and of course it's not ALL of what is going on, but I do believe that the way we think can alter our own life experience. And then if we become seriously ill we at least can have a chance to help our own body to heal itself.
It's something I've not had much time to consider, I'm quite new to all this Taoism/spirituality lark and haven't had time to think it through, but I am trying to do it for myself. Be more positive I mean.

Hello, Libra,
you may find this interesting:
"There is the case where a woman or man is one who harms beings with his/her fists, with clods, with sticks, or with knives. Through having adopted & carried out such actions, on the break-up of the body, after death, he/she reappears in the plane of deprivation... If instead he/she comes to the human state, then he/she is sickly wherever reborn. This is the way leading to sickliness: to be one who harms beings with one's fists, with clods, with sticks, or with knives.
"But then there is the case where a woman or man is not one who harms beings with his/her fists, with clods, with sticks, or with knives. Through having adopted & carried out such actions, on the break-up of the body, after death, he/she reappears in a good destination... If instead he/she comes to the human state, then he/she is healthy wherever reborn. This is the way leading to health: not to be one who harms beings with one's fists, with clods, with sticks, or with knives.
