Posted October 30th, 2009 09:15 PM IP I am brand new to this site, and so far very glad to of found it. I am about 10 weeks pregnant, and when I found out I was pregnant I knew I had to stop taking prescription pain medications, and after trying to with drawl off them, my doc (obgyn) decided he wanted me to be on methadone. We dont have a methadone clinic around here, and he is very unfamiliar with safe dosage and what not, so he only started me off on 10 mgs, once a day. I am still horribly sick, and basically have no quality of life. I am very harshly judged for taking methadone pregnant, and I am terrified of my baby being taken away at birth because I am an "addict" taking methadone pregnant. Does anyone know what my rights are automatically? Do I need to do anything before the baby is born to protect myself legally? I'm really really scared, and no one seems to have any straight answers for me. I live in a pretty small town, and I feel like eventually everyone is going to know that I had to take methadone pregnant, because of the high possibility of my baby being sick from it. I'm also scared that they wont know exactly how to treat my baby if it is sick. I'm basically just scared. This is my first pregnancy, first baby, and first time on a methadone "program". Help!

Posted December 10th, 2009 11:42 AM IP Have you emailed Sharon about this? I do have some concerns tho about you being prescribed methadone for addiction. While physicians are allowed to prescribe methadone for pain, you said your doctor was prescribing it to you for you addiction (which is illegal) and that he is unsure about safe dosage. This cant be good. I suggest you find a methadone clinic that is closest to you and make the trips if you can there and at least find a doctor who is well versed in pregnancy and opiate addiction.
Try doing a seach for an addictionologist in your area, and an ob/gyn who is well versed in addiction and pregnancy. I hope this helps. Nothing is permanent in this wicked world. Not even our troubles."

Posted December 19th, 2009 12:45 PM IP Hello, I am also new to this site and i am 29 weeks pregnant. When i got on the methadone program i was about ten weeks. At first i didnt know what to do or what people would think but I thought about it and really didnt care, my babys health is more important than what they were thinking. I was also worried about dss takeing my baby and all that stuff but i talked to the counslers and nurses and they told me its better to ask for help than hideing it. You are doing your part on comming clean with your doc. My advice to you is to look for a doc. that knows about methadone and try to find a clinic somewhere around you,I know you said there isnt any close but maybe if you ask around someone might know something. Your doing your best keep it up! april
