My friend Sam is currently in ICU at a hospital in Kansas City. It has been determined that he has a bleed in his small bowel which is in a place that they cannot reach. If any of you have any experience, advice, information, hope or anything please post it because Sam is reading this message board from his hospital bed. I've encouraged him to make sure his doctors are giving him platelets, amicar and novo7. Your support and prayers are very much needed right now! Thank you!

Helen

Hi Sam,
I hope you are on mend they get this bleed under control soon. My son is 7 with GT and we have not had any experience with major GI bleeding, thank goodness. But he was also diagnosed with Celiac Disease. We keep Celiac in check by sticking to a gluten-free diet. I am not sure of your situation, but have you checked for other complicating issues not related to GT? I know that if we did not find out about Celiac and Quinn went on eating gluten, he too would have serious GI bleeding complicated by the combination of Celiac and GT. I know of one other GT patient that also has Celiac.

Sometimes when we are dealing with such a rare condition like GT we tend to attribute everything to it, maybe the bleeding is caused by something else, but complicated by GT. Just throwing out some thoughts...hope you get everything under control!

Take care,
Tami

Hi Sam,
I know what it is like to have a major GI bleed. Luckly have not had one in 30 years. They never did find where my bleed was coming from. If you need to talk, give me a call. I believe we have talked before. You are in my prayers and will be thinking of you.
Be safe and take care,
Kaytee

Sam is still bleeding! He asked me to post his current status a couple of days ago but my internet has been down! Sam has been bleeding for almost 80 days and has received almost 100 platelet transfusions. He's been scoped, has swallowed the camera, and has been receiving Amicar and Novo7 without any relief. He is considering undergoing a procedure in Texas that involves a new technology that involves both the large intestine and small intestine. Any support, prayers, advice, referrals, etc are more than needed at this point. Please give Sam a call to let him know he is your thoughts and prayers! 816-803-5701.
