Hello Everyone,

We finally have a diagnosis for Peter's right elbow pain after years of discomfort, MRI's and orthopedic visits. He has a condition called osteochondritis dissecans which has resulted in loose cartilage and bone tissue in his joint. It is an overuse injury typically found in baseball and gymnastics - or in Peter's case, from tennis and swimming.

We are now in the process of scheduling a procedure called elbow arthroscopy which is a procedure that will remove any loose cartilage and bone tissue. The procedure will happen under the close supervision of a hematologist and Peter will be monitored closely for any complications after surgery.

It wasn't an easy decision for us to make for Peter to have surgery, but he has been in a large amount of pain these past few months and the pain hasn't gone away now that his swim season is over. He won't be playing tennis this spring which is a bit sad considering it is his senior year in high school. We realize we need to do something now to avoid chronic pain in his elbow which will ultimately affect his quality of life.

I'll keep you all posted and let you know when the surgery is scheduled. Please send some positive thoughts our way!

Take care,
Missy

I believe strongly that we GT folk should be trying to excel in the things which we can safely do, rather than trying to prove that we are the same as everyone else by taking part in the sports which can prove dangerous for us.

Peter has achieved this admirably and I really feel for him now that he has hit this problem. I pray that all will go well with his surgery and he will soon be back to full fitness for both his chosen sports.

Best of luck with everything Peter - you are in inspiration.
