Posted June 30th, 2006 06:04 PM IP I am an EC of my commandery for the last two years and still don't know why many of my officers' jewels have a chicken in it. Could anybody tell me where can I find the meaning of it? I tried the ritual, but not luck.
Thanks

Posted June 30th, 2006 06:43 PM IP Good question. I'm former KT, and don't remember any chickens except the ones on top of our hats. Dave Mavity

Posted July 1st, 2006 04:35 AM IP Its a Cock (erel) !
The Cock is the monitor of the Order for, as his crowing heralds the morn, so let it at that still hour call to our rememberance our duties as Knights Templar, and reminding us thus early to ask for assistance to perform them throughout the coming day. May we ever welcome that sound as a friendly caution and not have reason to fear it as the periodical reminder of a broken vow.

Posted July 1st, 2006 10:31 AM IP Sorry, I knew it was a cock, I just didn't know the name in English. English is my second language. Norwichman: where did you find that out? Is it in a ritual or a book? Thanks.

It is part of the ritual, delivered at the end during the explanation of the symbols etc.
No need to apolgise! I wish I had a second language as good as yours!

Posted July 4th, 2006 09:41 PM IP Norwichman: Thank you. It took me a litle bit of time to find it, but I did. For some reason it is not in the ritual that I have and been using in my commandery for years. But I find it in the web.
Once again thank you.

I am not KT myself but this sounds like Masonic veiling in allegory - just like the bee
How would it be if it were a phoenix calling its earthly brethren to remember who they are and reminding them to call for its assistance in returning to their duty?
In the US the eagle on the Great Seal was originally a phoenix. Why?
Cheers

You have to descend within, and even then, you have to dig through it's mustard and rock salt grilling crust to find the sacred gristle. Dave Mavity
