Posted June 17th, 2006 04:08 PM IP A question for our American brethren.
Was the whitehouse built by specially imported Scottish stonemasons, and has the whitehouse always been white?

Posted May 1st, 2007 04:26 PM IP We were always taught in Grade school that it was the Canadian and British troops that envaded Washington in 1814 (war of 1812) that burned the building to just a shell. After that the it was rebuilt and panited white to cover the burn marks. Before the fire I don't think it was called the white house - that is the post ware of 1812 name.
