A question for our American brethren.

Was the whitehouse built by specially imported Scottish stonemasons, and has the whitehouse always been white?

Not always it was a bit brown when the Brits burnt it down during the war of 1812.

We were always taught in Grade school that it was the Canadian and British troops that envaded Washington in 1814 (war of 1812) that burned the building to just a shell. After that the it was rebuilt and panited white to cover the burn marks. Before the fire I don't think it was called the white house - that is the post ware of 1812 name.
