Hey everyone. I have been looking for an open and helpful forum and hopefully I have found it. I wanted to know the difference in International and Prince Hall Masonry. I have been interested in becoming a brother and wanted to seek further but the two people I trust most to ask for guidance are from different....I don't know "branches" I guess. If anyone can assist me I will greatly appreciate. Here I sit with two petitions in my hand not knowing or understanding why they aren't the same. International or Prince Hall.....

A warm welcome to the forum! Looking forward to your comments! I'm sure there will be folk here that can answer your question better than me; being across the pond our Masonry is a bit different from your side of things!

International is not legitimate!
Out of those two, the only regular is Prince Hall! Be careful with this, cause you might end up in an organization that is simply "fake" masonry.

Thanks Canuck, I would greatly appreciate some detail if and when you have the time on the matter. As I stated this is something I have been wanting to do for a while. Who wouldn't want to go from being a good man to being a better one? I am looking to become the upgrade of IzzyReal and would like to have a positive atmosphere with brothers who have taken the same journey as I have. My buddy wears the top hat in a lodge out here in Florida and he is Prince Hall. Any additional advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you again.

Firstly welcome to the forum.
Secondly it is difficult to answer your question unless we know under which jurisdiction you live.
Sadly in some places, Prince Hall masonry is still considered irregular by "mainstream" freemasonry.

The topic of regularity gets quite complicated and political. I try to avoid it all together, it can be a slippery slope.

To canuck's point "fake" masonry is something even worse.

I know this does help much but it is what it is

Firstly, welcome to the forum.

Secondly, go for the Prince Hall one. International isn't recognized outside of its own relatively small organization.

Thanks again guys. I have turned in my petition recently to a lodge in central Florida. Davis lodge 47. I am very excited to hear the results as to if I am going to be brought in as an EA. I understand I was already discussed and it looks good. There are 2 other ppl being brought in very soon and I'm hoping to join an go through this with others. I will keep you all posted and thanks for the warm welcome to the forum and for the advice.

If you are in Florida - Prince Hall definitely, not International.
International is not a legitimate organization.
I know that it's bad to promote another forum here, but I believe that if you visit forum.mastermason.com it will help you learn more about the difference between Prince Hall and International. There's a section for Prince Hall and there are quite a few PHA members there (I believe even from Florida). You'll be able to get a more accurate and detailed advice for sure.

Update for all those who have helped me with advice and just those generally curious. Feb. 7th is the day I will receive my EA. I will be apart of Davis Lodge and taking the first step into a great brotherhood. Looking forward to doing my degree work. More updates on my journey to come.

Received my first degree yesterday! I was a bundle of nerves but everything turned out great. Lots of learning involved, but I went through with three other brothers so with our combined effort we will have interesting study sessions.

First of all congrats.

Secondly don't stress it will all come in time.
I can not really speak for PH Masonry I am assuming it is similar enough to what we do in my lodge as my GL recognizes PH masonry.

Enjoy the journey

Received my FC degree recently. Things are getting more interesting would love to talk to some brothers about it. Will hopefully be receiving my third in June. Really have been learning about the responsibility I have to my brothers and the extent of my cable tow.
