Hello everyone.
This is a suggestion for the future issues of 10k Connection.
I want you to post here, why do you love T10K. And your message would appear in one of the future issues.
Tell us shortly, why did you watch "The 10th Kingdom" for the first time. When you never knew about it. And why do you still like to watch.

We post this answer here?

Okay, well I was and still am a huge fan of those Hallmark miniseries starting with Gulliver's Travels which was the very first one I saw and I loved just about each and every one they did at the time my favorite was Merlin (still is a very close tie with 10K) I loved fantasies and legends, and fairy tales and I love these beautiful, imgainative, clever retellings, detailed, very well acted and effective films, so when I heard about this 10 part one that was based on fairy tales, I naturally became excited and was determined not only to see it but to tape it as well (For some reason I was never able to tape many of them! I guess because I wanted to see them first and tape it when they reran but for the most part they never reran at least not on the channels that first showed them. The only one I ever taped was Alice in Wonderland and I have a store bought VHS copy of Merlin that I got for my birthday one year, so that counts!) So this one somehow I knew not only did I have to see it, I had to have it so I can see it again so I already had a good feeling about it! And I am proud to say when I did watch it my feelings were greatly met even surpassed!
It was such a beautiful story, with wonderful characters, a clever brilliant script, memorable acting all around, brilliant special effects, terrific lovely backdrops and settings. It was a very real world with very real characters. These filmakers did a great job of making this fully realized world of fairy tale characters and bringing out all of the nuances, means of making it a very real world (like how J. K. Rowlings does with the wizarding world of Harry Potter). The love story between Wolf and Virginia is very romantic, passionate and heartwarming. The characters are all wonderful particularly Wolf, Virginia, Tony, and Wendell and I mentioned in another post how those four made a very good tight group that bounced their lines effortlessly off each other, and played so well together. You can tell they enjoyed working together! That kind of love and dedication shows onscreen and is testament to their characters!
It's the type of movie that you can watch and not get tired of. I joked to my sister how it's a Lord of the Rings for the eyes! Just as I know Tolkien fans (like my sister) who read the book over and over again, so do I watch 10K several times. You catch new jokes, lines, situations that looking back on force you to rethink a character or situation, even trivia or clever visual thing (Like an apple orchard being named Merrypips, named I suppose for Pippin Took and Merry Bandlebrook from LOTR!) So it's not only a movie that is to be watched and enjoyed once but watched and enjoyed several times!

I watched t10k for the first time simply because there wasn't anything more interesting on TV. I was quite suspicious and didn't think that I would love t10k one day as much as I do now. I thought it was some sort of cheap fantasy movie, which - as we all know - is it not.

The reason why I never get sick of t10k is that it is something really special. It's like "The Lord of the Rings" - not that successful - but in it's own way different to anything else that has been made before. I'm convinced that in 10 years from now, not many people will remember it. But the few ones who do will keep it in their heart for ever!

I first saw "The 10th Kingdom" on Christmas 2003 when it aired in Germany on TV channel VOX. (I am not german but I speak and understand this language very well and I often watch german TV because there is so much sci-fi, fantasy and similar stuff.) In my country, Czech republic, fantasy films are not very popular among TV bosses, therefore T10K hasnīt been aired here yet!

Starting watching part 1 I thought : well, this would be again one of this nice-but-not-very-exciting Hallmark movies. Actually I thought this even after the end of part one. But then, sometime during part 2 I found out that all at once I am addicted to it ! Part 3 definitely spoiled my Christmas (but I donīt complain) because I wasnīt eagerly awaiting christmas presents like the rest of the family, but the next part of this exciting, unique series. Sadly I managed to tape only the last 3 parts of the series - and then I watched it 5-times in only 6 days. Then I had to stop because I started to feel like a realy strange junkie.

Like most of the female fans I love Wolf, he is so eccentric, funny, dangerous and cute at the same time. And so handsome! And I admire the creator ot the 9 Kingdoms, Mr. Simon Moore. I wish I had his brilliant imagination!

T10K is the first movie over past a few years with so surprising and unexpected action reversals that I wasnīt able to imagine how it would end, like I usualy do after at least 15 - 20 minutes of watching. I must confess that in part 5 I really wasnīt sure if Wolf hasnīt changed his loyalty and joined the evil queen. Well, of course I knew he loved Virginia so much, but - she rejected him and he was so hurt and wretched, he could do anything... I love troubled, conflicted heroes, they are more interesting as the "nice guys".

As you can see my addiction still lasts, although I donīt compare any more each romantic scene in every movie I watch with the famous lovely scene of Wolf and Virginia in Kissingtown restaurant... But at least I am working on my own czech T10K www page to make the series popular among my fellow citizens and check regulary the net about sequel news.

I first saw the "The !0th Kingdom" when it originally aired on NBC in 2000. I grew up loving fairy tales and fantasy. so of course I knew I was going to l enjoy this miniseries even before watching it. After watching it I was hooked. I loved the adventure, the twist on old favorite fairytales, the different storylines, the complex characters, and the love story. I still enjoy watching it today and much as I did in the beginning. I truly feel this story should continue, this it why I'm still a fan.

Okay, I'll put my story in here too. Hope it doesn't get too long, but it probably will. If you do want to use it in the newsletter, feel free to edit:

First, let me say I live in the U.S. and saw 10K the first time it aired (sort of) in Feb. - Mar. 2000 on NBC.

I said "sort of" because I didn't really watch it to begin with. I'd seen the ad for it in the TV Guide, but it really looked to me like one of those plotless excuses for putting in a lot of stars in cameo roles for "sweeps" month but the whole show ends up being a boring waste of time. But my son wanted to see it, so it was running in the living room. I walked through the living room about the time Wolf & Virginia are sitting in the giant's tree. It was interesting, so I sat and watched it awhile, but it didn't continue to hold my interest, so I got up.
I came back later (another day) during the full moon scene. This was VERY different from what I had been expecting, so I sat and watched it and was hooked thereafter. I have my (now passed away) dad to thank for taping the whole thing so I could see the first parts I missed.
I, too, like the way it keeps you guessing as to whether Wolf is really the enemy or not. Unfortunately, NBC was too fearful that people would lose interest over the commercial break (the entertainment industry apparently thinks everyone has attention deficit disorder) so they'd insert little "previews" into the break and spoiled the ending. It really irritated me that they did that.
I didn't order the tapes off the TV that they were advertising, but when the DVD came out, I bought both it and a DVD player (so I bought a DVD player just to see 10K!) since the VHS version *not* sold on TV didn't have the whole show on it.

Okay, here's mine too.
------------------------------------------------------------

When The 10th Kingdom was first aired on NBC in February, I watched out of curiosity not expecting to be too impressed because I didn't see how they could do such a huge miniseries (10 hrs!) using fairytales. In my mind, a miniseries should be a dramatic epic of tragedy and romance and people facing seemingly insurmountable odds - you know like Roots, Thorn Birds, etc. What a surprise to learn that the ugly duckling I was expecting turned into a beautiful swan. The characters were very complex, the location shots made you feel like you were actually traveling through another dimension, I loved the humor (Virginia singing "We Will Shear You") and Wolf really turned out to be the most interesting hero. When I first saw Scott Cohen as Wolf, I thought he was a bit cartoonish and really thought that it was Prince Wendell who would somehow become involved with Virginia. But that's what I like about this miniseries. Nothing is as it seems. Unfortunately, I only got to see the beginning of the miniseries on television and after hearing about the ratings being so low, I feared that it wouldn't be aired again, so I went on the internet and bought the complete NBC miniseries set - 3 VHS Cassettes, the novel and the soundtrack. That's when I totally fell in love and wanted a sequel.

At the beginning I too thought Prince Wendell would become Virginiaīs fiancé after she rescues him from this evil spell. Thatīs what the film makers usualy do - a beautiful poor girl and a handsome, rich prince put together in a romance. And after I got to know and love Wolf I began to fear that they will still hold on this "prince and maiden" rule and Virginia and Wolf will be separated in the end. Therefore I was pleasantly surprised that they didnīt.

I must confess that I bought neither VHS, DVD nor the book (Iīd love to buy the book but itīs not easy!). Now I am succesfully taping T10K each weak - it is aired here in Czech Republic for the first time every week on tuesday morning.

Hello Everyone. The deadline for the next newsletter is coming up and we need anyone who wants their comments to be included to post here before the last week in April. So all you guys who haven't posted yet, the cuckoo clock is almost ready to chime. By the way, did you know Simon Moore gets a copy of the newsletter?

I loved The Tenth Kingdom because it had all the elements of a fantastic fantasy story. It had a plot that, although long and rather stretched out, was able to stay contained in one storyline by both showing us how different people in different places were handling each new challange, but also kept reintroducing factors to remind us of where teh story had come from and how far it had progressed.

It had unique and memorable characters, each with the necessary personal flaws and inhabitions to capture our sympathies while they stole away our little hearts as they dealt with their respective problems. Each character, even many of the secondary ones, experienced significant character growth as well, letting us grow along side them and the ever changing story.

It had a villian worth or fears. the Evil Queen was an extremelly effective villian because in addition to having the title and dispositions of the traditional fairy tale villianess, she was a decidedly real character. She had problems, she convayed an impressive array of emotion while trying to remain neutral on most subjects, and most importantly, she knew her limits and did her own dirtywork. what could be more frightening then a villian who not only did all her own killing, but also had no qualms with forging alliances and asking for assistance when she needed it, making her all the more difficult to evaid or beat.

Overall, it was a movie that was able to capture that nostalgic childhood feeling of watching old favorites with all new settings and takes on traditional beliefs explored through endearing characters that no one could resist. It is the untimate contemporary fairytale.

Well, if Mr. Moore is going to get the issue, could you also add that I believe that T10K is one of the best fantasy movies I ever saw, it has an outstanding plot, very different of the boring, uninteresting and less imaginative stuff usually shown in TV or cinema and that I also like the characters not being only simply good or bad, they were like normal people with normal problems, which is very refreshing change – in short, he did an excellent job, making this movie? It cannot be false to flatter the creator…

I hope I am not late but my internet connection was on strike for several days. Of course I blame my internet provider!

Hello,

I watched The 10th KIngdom for the first time during november 2004. We bought the DVD's for only 15 euro in a record store in the Netherlands (where we live).
We (my wife and I) enjoyed the DVD's very much. Scott is our favourite and we love the humor in The 10th.
In January 2004 the dutch television broadcasted the series and after looking for the second time we decided to make our own website for the dutch fans, because almost all the other sites are in english.
Maybe you would like our photo gallery (Foto Album in dutch) Just click on one of the photo's on the Foto Album page to take a look. (We have many many pictures of Scott)

Ofcourse I recommended your newsletter to the readers of our dutch forum !

I watched it because it looked entertaining. I continue to watch it because of the fantasy of it all. The characters are so special and some so silly, I just love them all. I just love to watch Virginia fall in love with Wolf. I just wish that Tony would have found true love in the 4th Kingdom.
